could the falcons really win the NFC South?

Let me look at the tiebreaks. You must have the edge on us for some reason.

Conference record. That's what it is. If we ended up tied, we'd be 7-5 in conference while you'd be 8-4 (we swept the AFC West, you lost to Denver).

So we have to beat New Orleans or you have to miraculously lose to STL. If we lose and you win, you win the division and we're going to Arizona in round 1.

On a totally unrelated note, I'm borderline suicidal.

I still think the Panthers would win at the Cardinals, but in Arizona they can be pretty tough.

We beat Arizona this year at home and last year on the road, but we should've lost both games. We can take them, and then the next week would be @NYG, which we probably will have to do to make it to Tampa anyway.

I really want that bye, though. We haven't had one since 1996, and it'd be nice to have a stress-free round 1 weekend.

Yes, no stress in week one is extremely nice.

Man, I cannot I'm Overcompensating believe this. BESIDES A TIE (props bukie) EVERYTHING went right for me football wise today, including a Chargers win and Broncos loss to set up what I've been hoping for the last 4 weeks.

Can you believe a team that was once 4-8 actually controls their own destiny for a division championship?

Bears playoff odds are still only like 30% with a win tomorrow, but that is much better than the 10% we had coming into today.

The Broncos collapse is Mets-like in its hilarity.

The only way it could be topped is if the Chargers lose to them in some equally hilarious fashion next week. I wonder what game is going to be flexed to Sunday night.

According to ESPN it's the Denver-San Diego game.

If Miami gets into the playoffs, which team would be considered the more unlikely playoff team, the Dolphins or Falcons?

My vote would go to Atlanta.

This is mind boggling:

The Jets against the AFC West: 1-3 (beat KC by only 4, lost to Oak, SD, Den)

The Jets against the NFC West: 2-2 (beat Ari, St.L and lost to SF, Sea)

The Jets against everyone else: 6-1 (beat Buf twice, Miami once, split with NE, beat Tenn and beat Cinn).

I didn't know it was possible to go 3-5 against easily the two worst divisions in football and 6-1 against other teams.

As a Dolphins fan, I thought there was no way in hell they'd make the playoffs this year. They were a 1-15 team last year and on paper looked to be even worse this year. They got rid of Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor over the offseason and traded away Chris Chambers right before the trade deadline last year. Their only big time addition was Chad Pennington and I didn't think a QB could make that huge of a difference in his first year with a new team without having a full offseason to get accustomed with everything. The picks of Jake Long, Kendall Langford, and Davone Bess (UFA actually) have greatly improved the team as well as the improvements made by Ted Ginn Jr, Patrick Cobbs, and Yeremiah Bell. Smiley and Camarillo were both playing phenomenal (especially Smiley) up until their season ending injuries.

All in all, I really like the way Parcells and Sparano got this team turned around so quick. They got younger and added depth to the offensive and defensive lines and got good value with some later picks/UFAs. Then you got little moves that don't get talked about much like aquiring Anthony Fasano to pair up with David Martin. Those 2 TEs have about 850 yards and 9 TDs combined on the season. Now before I get too ahead of myself praising the Dolphins front office, I got to admit that playing an easy schedule is a large reason why the Dolphins are 10-5. But there's nothing you can do about that but stay focused and beat the teams you are supposed to beat, and that's exactly what the Dolphins have done all season long. So hopefully the Dolphins take care of the Jets on the road and then make some noise in the playoffs. I wouldn't mind seeing the Falcons do the same (unless they match up with the Bears)

Definitely the Falcons. Not only did I think they were the worse team, but I also had no faith in Matt Ryan being anything more than an average QB in the NFL.

I think the reason they went away from that matchup is that the Jets could very well be eliminated before they even took the field if they played that as the Sunday Night game. The Denver-SD game is a guaranteed both-teams-win-and-they're-in game.

Here are a few photos from the last game at Texas Stadium. My camera sucks, so they aren't that good. These are all of pre-game warm-ups. I had planned to take some more after the game, but we left pissed off. I regret that my brother-in-law and I didn't take one with the field behind us, but we just didn't.

And yes, that's me in the Santa suit, and I have no idea who those girls are. Everyone kept stopping me and wanted to take a picture. For some reason, my brother-in-law took that one. I wish I had copies of every photo I posed for because there's one where I'm Santa double fisting two Jack Daniels bottled drinks.

And big thanks to the Chargers for keeping the playoff hopes alive. It won't be easy beating the Eagles, but at least if the Cowboys win, they're in.

I thought the Jets were in a win and in situation with Miami. The winner takes the division and the loser has to hope New England loses to grab the wild card.

That's what I thought, at least.

If New England wins, the Jets are out no matter what happens. They can no longer get the wildcard, as they lose the tiebreaker to Baltimore, and to win the division, they need to win and have NE lose to force a tie.

Well think about it. Miami is 10-5, New England is 10-5, and the Jets are 9-6. If the Jets and NE win, NE is 11-5 and the Jets are 10-6.

Cut me some slack, I haven't checked the standings since last week. Plus it's Monday morning and I'm stuck at work.

No problem, I didn't take it that way. I was mostly joking, but the obviousness of what I was missing (the different records) made me feel dumb.

It's all good. :D

I'm not liking the Bears chances with the Vikes playing at home against a Giants team that already clinched top seed. I think Peterson will have a huge game after having his 2nd worst game of the season yesterday and I think The starters will play a little, but the Giants will try to rest up for the next to weeks.

Plus I really don't even feel confident about us against the Texans next week.

The Texans are not a bad football team.

Had the hurricane not happened and thrown them completely off their routine, I think they'd have another win or two and be just on the outside of the playoff race. They're pretty decent.

I know and I have no clue who will try to defend Johnson, but yeah I mean they had the injury to Schaub which really hurt them and the whole hurricane thing kinda of demoralizes any good about the season at that point

Another 4 TD performance by Rivers.

GO BILLS!

If by "Another" you mean... first 4td performance of his career you would be right.

Heh, how did I know you would be the one to correct me? I could have sworn he had a 4 TD performance earlier this year but after further inspection he just had 6 games of 3 touchdowns.

Either way, guess that puts a fork in the argument of best QB this year.

I'll be pulling for Chris Johnson in the playoffs for you guys dew. I didn't think it would be possible for anyone to overtake Garrard as the most beloved NFL player in Greenville, NC until this year. I think he's even surprised his biggest fans. Congrats and good luck, hope Lendale's "towel stomping" doesn't come back to haunt you all.

Thanks for the kind words on CJ. I didn't like the pick when the Titans made it, though it wasn't because I didn't like him, it was just because I thought a receiver would fit us better. In the end, though, he's better than I thought he would be - and our receivers still suck. :-))

I don't think there'll be much to the towel stomping. I might've preferred that he not do it (and Bulluck as well), but Jeff Fisher is right in that I doubt the Steelers can play much harder or more determined than they did Sunday - especially after a tough playoff game and with KVB and Haynesworth back.
