Bad loss. This is without a doubt the worst game of the yr for Bama. (Btw: Thank, you Andre Smith for your distraction, and Kevin Steele I wish yo well at Clemson). I had not seen Alabama play like a Big 10 team in a long time, but oh well it happens. I know I am going to be razzed :club: , but that's ok. I am disappointed in their performance. To be honest this team seemed disinterested after going from potentially playing for the National Title to playing Utah. No disrespect to Utah, but this was a letdown, and the game show that. Disappointed, but they did have a great season.

Yeah, Bama was a overrated (but so is Florida, Big 12 teams, USC, blah, blah, blah), only because they've overachieved significantly. But guess what, Alabama is still very young, and they are a legit Top 10 team in college football, despite the last two games they played. My only problem with Utah is they will going trash talking and flaunting like they were the old Miami Hurricanes. You win class, you loss classy. I hope they learn to win classy. Simple truth, they whupped us, no shame. But hey BSU beat OU a couple of yrs ago, OU is currently playing for the NT. And yes, Alabama does have enough talent to play for the National Championship, but getting there is a different story.

ROLL TIDE BABY.

Razz on, if you must.

Did a Bammer really just (try to) say "you win with class, you lose with class"? Surely I am not the only person here who understands the irony in that statement? I cannot possibly be.

I'm pretty sure "an H-J" is right because it's a hard A sound. It's the sound, not the letter that's important. Somebody get CubbieBum in here to clarify.

Technically, whether you use a/an before a word beginning with an H should be determined by the letter after the H.

Thus, "an hand" is technically correct.

Only if the h is silent, if I'm not mistaken. It would not be correct to say "I want an hamburger." Nor "have an happy holiday."

I believe you're right (such as an historic moment; the word is pronounced "istoric" with the "h" silent).

Yes, historic and honor were the words that immediately came to mind.

If I read your previous posts, and it lead me to believe you are a Vol fan. which means a Vols fans accusing a Bammer fan of having "no class" is also the definition of irony, seeing as Coach Fulmer is the picture definition of low class.

There are a number of formal "correct" English pronunciations which drop the h altogether when deciding between a or an. Link.

Back in undergrad, one of my friends was a linguistics major who did a lot of work on this kind of stuff. There was an English grammar book he showed me which stated that you should always drop the h when determining whether to use a or an. It's a dialectical thing (as seen with some people pronouncing the "h" in history), but technically speaking, it is acceptable to say "an hand" or "an happy holiday."

Yes, it is dialectic, but mostly European dialects. The link you provided clearly states that it is at the speaker's discretion, but uses Cockney as the formal example, and promotes an only in the case that you pronounce it as a silent h. In that case, and especially in the United States, the usage of an is incorrect unless you say (as quoted in the article) "an and." (ie "give me an and, mate.")

Now, if you're european by lineage, who am I to tell you how to speak? However, if you pronounce your h's, then it just sounds ridiculous to use the word an before it.

Okay, English lesson over. Don't we have a Texas/OSU game to overanalyze and batter each other over?

First: Nick is classier then people give him credit for.

Second: You are sick man. To think that is your "favorite" story about Alabama. You are sick. You cannot in all seriousness group the majority of Bama with that lunatic, cause I pretty sure every freakin' fan base in America has those kinds of Idiots. That "lunatic" is NOT a representation of the University of Alabama and it's fanbase. And to considered that your favorite Alabama story............that is wrong.

It took Saban a couple of months on the job to be reported for NCAA Violations, in Alabama terms that is considered class and a new school record.

What's sad is that Utah cannot compete for the national championship. C'mon AP Poll! Make me proud!

they're not good enough

I know I'm going to regret asking this, but how can you definitively say that they aren't good enough without seeing them play someone like Florida or Oklahoma? It's ridiculous to just assume they aren't good enough because they don't come from a big Conference.

Posted

im not belittling the mwc, utah or any midmajors. the mwc is on another level compared to other mid major conferences. theyre basically a bcs conference. just because they beat alabama it doesnt mean theyre better, or even close to, oklahoma, usc or florida. just because they beat alabama it doesn't mean they're better than alabama. at this point its a fair assumption to say theyre not better than usc, florida or oklahoma.

they basically beat four good teams all season long, and dominated none of them. florida, usc and oklahoma dominated good teams and played more good teams. you're just kidding yourselves if you think utah can beat one of the top three teams in the country more than ten percent of the time.

You apply this relativity nonsense whenever it's convenient. Utah pantsed Bama last night.

Utah's SOS would probably be top 50 after this game. Not the top 20 of Texas/Florida/OU, but they didn't lose either. If anyone wants to say the loss isn't made up for in the difference in schedules and Utah deserves a #1 vote, I don't think that's unreasonable. If you want to say the opposite, that the rougher gauntlet makes up for the loss(especially in OU's case, losing to a Top 5 team), then I don't think that's outrageous either.

1. Ole Miss is good. It was apparent by looking at their record and schedule this year; some simply didn't want to see it. The Ole Miss-Oregon State argument is a perfect example as to why point differential/scoring margin is imperative when comparing teams.

2. Utah is good, but remember what Alabama is. They pretty much lived off two big early season wins that weren't so big in retrospect. They demolished the Nos. 9 and 3 ranked teams. Those teams were 7-6 Clemson and 10-3 Georgia (a very good team, but not No. 3 good). They had solid (close) wins over Ole Miss and LSU, but, again, Alabama was never the fourth best team in the country, much less the best. Utah is good but Florida/Oklahoma/USC/Texas they aren't.

You must of slept through the Mike Shula days then. 26-23. Which is like Minnesota B10 good.

2004 Music City Bowl: Minnesota 20, Bama 16

So not even that good.

You're pretty sure every fanbase in the country has fans who shoot their son in the head because their football team lost?

I'm not going to be the LSU coach.

I'm not going to be the Dolphins coach.

I'm not going to scream and pout the entire Sugar Bowl if we get embarrassed on national TV.

unless Andre Smith was playing defense too, he wasn't the reason they lost

No, the reason they lost was struggles on offense. Mike Johnson, the right tackle shifted to left tackle and was knocked out of the game in the first ten minutes due to injury. Alabama's offensive line was down to their third and fourth string tackles and it showed. They had no running game and were sacked nine times. Their defense kept them in the game the last three quarters. Their offense wasn't able to come back. No Andre Smith had a huge impact on the game's outcome. JPW was harassed all night, sacked eight or nine times and they had no running game.
