The BCS has ruined New Years day as being the greatest day of the year. Besides MSU who plays at the same time as the Wings, I just am not that excited about the games today.

Not a real surprise, though.

 

You were looking for positives on Chaney earlier, and though I'm not sure I can sell him as a great hire, I like him on this staff. He's a pretty good recruiter (did pretty well as RC at Purdue- not an extremely easy school to recruit to, imo), and while he's not a stellar play caller, he won't have that responsibility in Knoxville. I think he's a fine addition to the staff, and I'd like to see what he'll do with the OL or TE's (whichever he coaches.)

 

I'm still hearing Jimmy Lake, though Monte is going to coach DB's as I understand it, and I'm hearing that Ken Norton Jr will be in Knoxville tomorrow to talk about the LB's position. Steve Gonzalez's name simply won't go away either, regardless of how much Urban keeps denying the whispers. Lane appears to be delivering on his promise of a great staff. Not sure what will happen with Gran and if he'll be hired to replace Drayton or if we'll keep Drayton, but we'll likely know that answer in the next few days.

 

I hope we keep Drayton, because there are rumblings out there that Oku is on the verge of decommitting and choosing Oklahoma State. Take that with a grain of salt, though, as it's a Rivals Mainboard rumor.

Yeah, I haven't found a lot of stuff on Chaney, but Purdue seemed to be productive while he was there. I'm a bit worried that I'm glad Kiffin will be calling the plays though.

I would be very happy if Norton came to UT. He and Gonzalez being added to the staff would be awesome - though, like you, I'm skeptical of adding Gonzalez since we've filled the OC spot.

Losing Oku would suck, but overall I'm not sure if I prefer Gran or Drayton. Gran's got an impressive resume (coached Cadillac, Ronnie Brown, Kenny Irons, etc) that Drayton cannot match.

Thank you. This "Big 10 teams get killed in BCS games" nonsense has to end. Since when are all teams from a conference over multiple seasons exactly the same?

I"m sick of it too. It's not like it's been different teams every year. It's just OSU getting their ass whooped perennially. That has nothing to do with anybody else in the conference in a completely different season.

I still don't think PSU matches up great with USC, but there's not really a team out there that does.

 

Plus, JoPa has won 63% of his bowl games. That has to count for something, eh? :wink:

Michigan didn't exactly set the Big 10 back last year.

What I love is that OU has been just as bad the past two years as OSU. They got stomped by WVU and lost to Boise State. Just because the Boise State game was great and it made for a great story, doesn't mean it was any less of a choke job for the BCS team losing to a non BCS school. Yet The Big Ten school is the one that catches all the slack.

Um I'm pretty sure a ton of people have talked about OU's struggles in bowls the last five or so seasons. Stop being naive.

Nationally it doesn't seem to get the attention.

I think USC will probably win, but I expect a very good game. Penn State is good. They aren't OSU, nor are they an out-of-their-league Illinois team.

It would be awesome if the Big Ten goes 2-0 against the SEC

 

Ohio St is 4-2 in BCS games...Michigan is 1-3. Illinois was also part of the 0fer the last couple of years.
