Their opponents in these games are 2nd place Big Ten teams if the Big Ten is good(becuase the 1st place team goes to the title game) or a 1st place Big Ten team when the conference is down.

So the only time a Big Ten school doesn't play for a championship is when the conference is down?

Heck, a Big Ten school has played for the championship the last two years out of a down conference.

Unfortuneatley the voters and the computers didn't know it was a down year before the blowouts.

I realize that this is primarily a USC argument, and I'm not saying I disagree with SSR, but the last point I would want to make is that USC is beating the brains out of the conference's 2nd best team when the "best" team is getting beaten in a fashion that proves they don't belong in a title game at all.

Well, Ohio State did deserve the title game appearance two years ago.

USC has dominated the Big Ten in bowl games this decade. I think that has a lot more to do with USC than the Big Ten. Following Carroll's first year, USC has only played two bowl games against other conferences. One was the epic Rose Bowl against Texas (which USC did lead by 12 with under seven minutes to play), the other was a 55-19 thrashing of Oklahoma. USC is dominant in bowl games under Carroll. They just happen to face the Big Ten more often -- and all but once in their back yard and thrice against the Big Ten's second place team.

What is Penn State doing?

HOW DO YOU KICK IT DEEP THERE

I didn't have a problem with the field goal - you'd need it at some point anyway if you were going to think about coming back.

I'd have kicked in onside there, though. It's not inexcusable though - if you stop them here you have a chance to score quickly and then kick it onside. This is too risky by PSU though.

JoePa has called a horrible game. When the score was 38-14, why do you not go for 2 when you score a TD? You could still have had a two score game and then not had to kick a FG, which a TD could have made it an 8 point one possession game.

Its all moot now since DC just got picked, but if I was a Penn State fan, I'd be pissed at inept Bears-like coaching.

It was 38-14 and then PSU kicked a field goal. That made it 38-17. There would be no reason to go for two at that point - not worth the risk.

The only problem I had was the non-onside kick after the TD to make it 38-24.

penn st. will cover with a TD here, that snap is going to cost someone a lot of money potentially

Classy move by USC to lay off and let Penn State score a couple.

Texas will not show the same mercy against THE Ohio State University.

yeah, they let them score

That's because Texas has a chance to win the AP National Title. Not very likely but possible. Texas probably didn't get into the National Title game because Mack Brown didn't Bob Stoops the score and leave McCoy in the game like Stoops did. Mack Brown will call off the dogs if it gets out of hand. He has too much respect for Jim Tressel not to. Stoops wouldn't and Meyer wouldn't. That's what got them to Miami.

Fine, when it was 31-7, they scored a TD and should have gone for two to make it a two score game.

Same concept.

Is this Fox's first telecast of the season? I hate these announcers coming in during the middle of the season.

Fox only does the Sugar/Orange/Fiesta/BCS Title game. It's horrible.
