I don't know if it's by design or not but, I'm glad Hendry chose to wait Towers out. Towers is seeking a King's Ransom for a player who, at this point, isn't worth it, 3-5 years ago Towers may have been able to command such a catch for Peavy but, not now.

More like a city council person's ransom. And how is Peavy worth less now than he was a few years ago? Are we assuming his career is winding down?

More expensive

Older

Shown some tendency towards injury

Not immediately coming off a Cy-quality season

I'm sure there's more.

Older? Older only reduces a players worth when you're talking past his prime. He's not that expensive, not anymore than he would have been had you traded for him and wanted to keep him. He signed his current deal 4 years ago and is in the last year of that contract.

The only reason why the price of Peavy is as low as it is is because he has a no-trade clause and he supposedly is insisting on going only to the Cubs.

If they were free to trade him to anybody, the Cubs collection of misfit toys wouldn't even allow them in the bidding process.

lol - I notice you didn't address the other two.

They were fair points, I addressed the ones that needed addressing.*

Doesn't change the fact that his price is being suppressed by non-market forces and complaints about "king's ransoms" are absurd.

Actually, your point about coming off a cy young season was not a fair point he's coming off a season that was better than the one he had 3 seasons ago, similar to the one he came off 4 years ago and a step below the season he had 5 years ago.

We won't get Peavy without giving up Vitters.

Cubs get Jake Peavy

Padres get Josh Vitters, Aaron Heilman, Garrett Olson, Jeff Stevens, and Kevin Hart

Mariners get Ronny Cedeno and Luis Vizcaino

Orioles get Felix Pie

Done and Done.... why is this taking so long? There should be an ownership announcement followed by a Peavy announcement 3 seconds after.

lol i'm sure the orioles would love that deal.

Why not? Garrett Olson for Felix Pie has been the rumored deal all offseason, it's good for both teams.

Just a little FYI:

A guy over on the Cubs board posted something saying his cousin is high up in the Cubs organization and that Peavy was traded to the Cubs.

Take it for what it's worth, but I just don't get why people would make this stuff up anymore. I'm guessing his knowledge was skewed just like in the game "telephone". Maybe his cousin meant that a deal is in place, because I highly doubt a deal was completed with no leaks.

lol, there was a time 6-7 years ago where news like this would get me excited for at least 30 seconds before common sense took over.

The conversation on the cubs board that they're having about that kid who supposedly knows someone, kind of sounds like the same convo we had hear with the guy in Puerto Rico and how he talked to Peavy and how peavy didnt want to be a brave and blah blah. The only difference is this guy or kid is saying the deal is done which is really not believable because i'm pretty sure it would've leaked by now. I just hate it when people post that stuff cause the cub fan in me wants to believe it so bad but the common sense part of me knows it's not true.

hmmm this is weird, I get emails from Cubs.com all the time and I just got an email saying the Cubs will hold a press conference tomorrow morning to announce a new member to their roster? Anyone else get this email?

Jim Hendry is going to be on Monsters in the Morning tomorrow morning on CSN.

He's going to be on who in the what-what?

The new show on Comcast SportsNet from 6:00 AM-9:00 AM with Mike North and Dan Jiggetts. I caught some of it this morning and I was impressed and I'm not even a big fan of Mike North.

Oh, OK. Thanks. I was never a big fan of North once he moved to mornings and seemed more interested in dishing with his "zany morning crew" than actually talking Chicago sports. But if you think it's worth watching, I'll give it a try . . .

I think North is much better around Jiggetts. He's less annoying now than when he was with his own show. And yeah it's like a Mike and Mike except all Chicago sports.

I'd be impressed if Mike North knew how to read.
