I'm amazed that there hasn't been one mention of a Dunn rumor yet, at least not that I've seen. Am I just missing them, or has anyone else seen any?

My guess is that the Cubs don't have any interest. Jim probably sees Dunn as a LF only and since we're looking for a RF, Dunn isn't on the list.

I heard or read that Washington would make a play for Dunn. But I really haven't seen anything about Dunn anywhere recently.

Could someone explain to me more fully why Soriano would not be suitable for RF. I know that you want a stronger arm in RF, but it seems to me that arm strength is one of Soriano's best attributes as an outfielder, to go along with above average speed. I do realize that he takes some bad routes to balls. I understand that with a guy like Reed Johnson out there, we need better defenders flanking him than Dunn. I also know that they say that with the wind at Wrigley, it is one of the hardest RF in baseball. I was just wondering if someone could clear this up for me because I am a little miffed. I also know that after seeing how Soriano hit during the CF experience, there may be some worries, but that was also during the cold months when he doesn't hit well no matter what.

WTF are you talking about? Johnson is a tremendous outfielder. Are we forgetting that catch in Washington?

I tend to agree. Soriano is a trainwreck in terms of taking routes to balls, but why is that so much worse in RF than LF? Is it simply because in LF, a runner taking extra bases is coming toward you; whereas in RF, he's going away from you?

I'm not saying I want Dunn (unless our CF had the craziest range in the league), just wondering why he can't be considered.

This is what confuses me about Ibanez rumors, he can't play RF, if you're going the route of a LH'ed LF'er, I'd rather the Cubs absorb all the negatives of Dunn and utilize the positives in the middle of the order.

The Cubs don't want to move Soriano to RF, or have Dunn in RF. Plus I think both Lou and Hendry are looking for a hitter who makes more contact. Not to mention I think Dunn contract demands might be out of the Cubs price range. The Cubs are probably looking for a RF at a 2 or 3 year deal at probably 10-12m or less. I think Dunn is gonna want 14-15m at 4 or 5 years. So unless we trade Lee or someone else, I don't see Dunn as a option.

Yeah, they just want to bridge the gap until Colvin is ready.

It is called range. Johnson is good in the way that Jim Edmonds was good all of those years. I think that he is a good outfielder, but he definitely is helped with speedy outfielders. This was the case this year as well as in Toronto.

I hope they wouldn't, Colvin hasn't done anything that would indicate he can be counted on to step in there 2-3 years from now as a starting RF'er.

I was being sarcastic. But, Cubs management does seem to want a short term fix rather than a long term fix. Probably in large part to the lengthy contracts they've already handed out.

They definitely don't want to go for another 4-40 mil contract, which is why I'm surprised they didn't do everything in their power to have Hermida included in the trade, even if meant someone like Colvin and Marshall.

As I mentioned before, it looks like the Nats may be interested in Dunn.

Link.

Nationals GM Jim Bowden has already made clear he attempts to remake the roster through trades and free agency. He got off to a great start by acquiring Josh Willingham and Scott Olsen from the Marlins for 12 peanuts and a bag of rosin. And he set his sights on a big-bat free agent, namely Mark Teixeira, Adam Dunn, Matt Holliday or Prince Fielder.

...? Prince Fielder isn't an FA, is he?

No, but it's been reported that Milwaukee will entertain offers for him.

Its pretty safe to assume that our offers, much less for our sorry ass prospects will not be entertained.

Milwaukee might find them entertaining though
