i'd rather win with Ryan Braun, Albert Pujols and Rick Ankiel with Ozzie Guillen as manager than lose with Kerry Wood

Braun? Yeah. Pujols? Yeah. Ankiel? Yeah. Guillen? Well. . . if that were the only way to win, I guess so. . . maybe. . . yeah. . .

I love that Woody is the reason we have been losing the past ten years now. Not inept management. Kerry Wood is the big reason we have won a single playoff series the last 100 years.

Either you misquoted, or you got the totally wrong idea from those posts.

I might have got the wrong idea, but it seems a couple of people have said that we haven't won with Wood so we might as well move on. Which is just crazy. Wood hasn't been the reason we have yet to win it all.

You completely got the wrong idea.

While that's not the case in this specific example, that has been the case by at least a couple people.

Right, but that's why I quoted the entire set of posts - those posts he quoted didn't say that at all.

While Wood was understanding about the Cubs' decision, which Hendry said was made in the best interests of Wood and his family, he did say he would've been amenable to staying and "would have done anything" to stay a Cub. The Cubs told him to go get a three- or four-year deal for more money, but Wood said he would've agreed to a one-year deal to stay.

Now I'm pissed.

I would imagine that would be a pretty pricey one year deal if he was open to it. That, or Lou just didn't want to deal with his injury concerns another year.

You and me both.

I could reasonably understand it if he wouldn't have taken anything less than a multi-year, big money deal. I would have hated it, but I could have accepted it over time. If this is true, it's totally and completely unacceptable and Hendry should be fired. This is crap.

No, Hendry shouldn't be fired for removing emotion from the decision and not wanting to sign a closer with durability concerns, even if the option of a one year deal was present.

Come on. You guys are really overstating Wood's value to this team.

Bruce, if you're here, I beg you to PLEASE at least mention this in an upcoming column. This needs to be addressed, and someone has to hold Hendry accountable here.

How could you argue in favor of Gregg over Wood because we'd be tied to a 4/40 deal with Kerry, but be okay with signing Dempster to 4/45 rather than Wood at 1/12?

If Wood truly would've signed a 1 year deal to stay with the Cubs(which is far from fact, easy to say this now to make yourself look good to the fans) then Hendry's an idiot for not taking him up on the offer.

You're wrong. Wood on a one year was a no-brainer.

For one year, though? He could have been cut loose if he had another elbow or shoulder issue next season. We wouldn't be a lesser team in any way with one year of Kerry Wood next year. We'd still have enough to address the offense.

What this is also telling me is my unspoken fear might actually happen. Hendry might not even offer arbitration to Wood.

God forbid we try and build a minor league system. Screw Hendry. He is horrible. We can give out shots to Wade Miller and Scott Williamson, but Kerry Wood is too injury prone.

Yeah, I have been defending Hendry, but now I am severely pissed off.

If Kerry wanted a multi-year deal, that's one thing. But to cut him loose when he is willing to take a one year deal really galls me.

This tears it. The Harden, Lee, Aram, and Nomar deals aside, Hendry is terrible. Aram and Lee fell into his lap, and he probably got lucky on Harden and Nomar. He needs to go, and he needs to go NOW. The Cubs will not win anything with this fat sack of crap at the helm.

I want to see independent confirmation of this first...but...if true...

no words will express

This is all ridiculous. All of it.
