Illini football 2008 - better than IU!

but not THE U

go gophers

yeah, they're better than the illini like oregon state is better than usc.

you can tell tim brewster than he can stop fist-pumping now.

naaa...I'm enjoying it ;)

good news is very soon we will have our open-air on campus stadium again. about friggen time. I was kinda stunned the gophers beat Illinois. I thought the Illini would be better this year then they have been, and the U's defense is night and day better then last year. I cant wait to go to an Illini-Gophers game outside, or any Gophers home game outside again

i'd like to be good humored about it, but it's still stings. too soon.

but yeah, an open-air stadium will be nice.

well, since your up north, maybe a trip to mpls for a illini/gopher game would be good for you? I actually like the illini alot, having grown up down there.

i love the twin cities, and get there whenever i can.

then we should have a beer sometime

definitely.

Well done.

anyone see the tulsa score?

77-35, 7 minutes left

they gained 800 yards!!!

They must be angry that they were undefeated and still unranked. Looking very likely that a mid-major gets into the BCS this year. Utah has a tough road, but Boise St. could be double digit favorites in every game from here on out. Ball St. and Tulsa are also undefeated with weak schedules, and if TCU runs the table they'll be in good position too. It's also pretty likely that either the ACC or Big East champ won't be in the top 12, so the entry bar will be lowered.

And the score at the end of the 1st quarter was 28-28, that's insane.

This was a highly underwhelming Saturday...all the good matchups weren't good games, and none of the close games ended in a truly exciting manner.

But next week ND gets to hand Ty Willingham one more ceremonial beating before he gets fired. So that should be fun.

I looked at Boise State's schedule last night, and I hate to say it, but that team's going unbeaten. There's no way they lose a game without a significant letdown.

Ball State picked a really bad year to have their best season ever.

Oh, and (3 posts in a row) why's Mizzou gone? I'm not shocked that he is, just missed how it happened.

If Tulsa could recruit local kids they would be a pretty good team all the time. Jenks and Union are incredible high school teams. I dated a girl from Jenks for awhile and it was a blast to go watch when they played each other. It was like a college game.

Five things I learned this weekend.

1. No one in the Big XII can play defense.

2. No one in the ACC should be ranked.

3. South Carolina will be dangerous the rest of the season.

4. No one in the Pac 10 outside of USC should be ranked.

5. Wisconsin is a complete disaster.

Five things I knew coming into this weekend, that are becoming more apparent.

1. Missouri's defense sucks is MAC quality.

2. No one in the ACC can play QB.

3. Everyone in the SEC can play defense.

4. The offenses in the Big XII are good, but nowhere near as good as the numbers.

5. Everyone in the Big XII north is overrated.

1 and 4 came very evident at the UT game today. Missouri's secondary was clueless all game long. McCoy had 10 yard windows to throw into all night long.

Top 25:

1. Texas

2. Alabama

3. USC

4. Oklahoma

5. Penn State

6. Florida

7. Georgia

8. Ohio State

9. Utah

10. Texas Tech

11. Boise State

12. Louisiana State

13. Oklahoma State

14. Brigham Young

15. South Florida

16. Texas Christian

17. Pittsburgh

18. Missouri

19. Tulsa

20. Ball State

21. Boston College

22. Florida State

23. Northwestern

24. Georgia Tech

25. Minnesota

There's a lot of shakeup going on in the bottom half.

I may still be the only one who cares but Shonn Greene is the only back in the country to go for 100+ every game this year and first Big Ten back to go 8 straight games over 100 since Dayne in '98.

1,154 yards (144 a game) for the year with 6.5 ypc. 648 yards in 4 Big Ten games (162 a game) and again 6.5 ypc. Hasn't had a game with fewer than 5 ypc all year. 3rd in the country in rushing, only 25 yards from leading the country and the two guys in front of him (Ringer and Donald Brown) have 87 and 20 more rushes on the year.

Yeah enough about Ringer. Too bad no one is noticing because they lost a few close games they should have won.

Only one team this millennium had a back rush for 1000 yards in the regular season and won the national championship. just one.

Maurice Clarett 2002 Buckeyes

Clinton Portis 2001 Hurricanes

I know those two rushed for 1000 yards. Neither White or Bush did at USC? Are you sure about that? And what about Jacob Hester last year?

ETA: Unless you don't count the SEC Title game as "regular season" Hester was over 1,000 last year.

I forgot to check the Canes. Fine none of the last five have. LSU no, UF, no, UT no, USC, no, LSU no...and if you want to get technical Auburn no.

The point is having a feature back isn't what it used to be for a couple of reasons. One, you don't run to win anymore. Two, with so much athleticism around the field, backs get tired more quickly (relatively speaking) and offsetting with multiple backs has become the more efficient way to run the football. It's not 1965 anymore. It's about passing the ball. The short screen passing game has replaced the running game, as well as the speed reads and to a certain extent the spring "option". Sitting up and trying to run the football with a feature back under the center just isn't the way to be good anymore.

He wasn't good at posting.

5. Wisconsin is a complete disaster.

Yep. They've had a ton of trouble with Iowa over the past few years (especially at Iowa), but after a vaguely promising start, the in-conference play has just been abysmal.

You're smarter than that. You know he's one of the (if not the) best TE in the country.

As for Kentucky and Ole Miss these two teams are very good, on the rise SEC teams that have really good defenses. These teams can beat any team in football.

In case anyone missed it earlier.
