I was the one that vouched for Gilbert at the top part of the list. His numbers when healthy compared favorably to the numbers Kobe was putting up during the same stretch. His advanced metrics look good too. It's definitely arguable though.

Not sure about Al Jeff. I think he has some issues on defense. Rising star for sure though and could easily be on the top list if not now very soon.

If the Celtics would not have traded for Garnett do you think a big 3 of Jefferson, Pierce, and Allen would have made the Celtics the best team in the NBA?

My opinion is it wouldn't because Garnett was willing to sacrifice his stats for the betterment of the team. Jefferson could not give as much to the team if he was not scoring. Al Jefferson = Amare Stoudemire. I think they are good but you cannot build a team around them until they learn how to play defense and can lead.

But can't you build a defense around a core offense of Rose + Amare + an outside shooter? I don't know, I haven't really kept up on Amare's career, but I know at one time he was a pretty good scoring threat.

So you're arguing that Al Jefferson is not a franchise player because he wasn't as good as Kevin Garnett at the start of last season (when Jefferson was 22 years old)? That's a tough measuring stick.

I think your list doesn't take the future into account very well. I guess if we're talking about this season, that's OK. But if we're talking about "giving up the house" for someone in order to build around them, Jefferson should be among the top 10 guys in the NBA.

Chris (Scottsdale, AZ): Lets get it out of the way who leads for Amare? and will the Bulls be able to move Hughes?

John Hollinger: (12:12 PM ET ) It still seems to me Miami's potential package of Marion and Beasley trumps anything else. Supposedly Phoenix doesn't like Beasley though -- but if they can find a third team that does, then a deal still works.

I dunno, in the back of my mind I think Amare winds up in Miami. The fact is, that at this point Beasley still probably has much more value than Tyrus. Not that Beasley has done anything to "wow" anyone so far in the NBA, but he is still riding alot of momentum from his college play and has decent #'s this year. On the other hand, TT's career appeared on life support last season and part of this year so he is still working his value up.

I could kill Boylan for not developing guys like Tyrus and Thabo last year when the season was pretty much done.

btw, if you want a laugh..listen to Zach Zaidman attempt a basketball discussion at night on the Score.

A "pro Amare" guy called in and basically admitted his defensive limitations, but noted how great Amare has been in the playoffs and also noted his offensive performances against elite bigs such as Duncan, Howard etc..."Amare may not be able to stop them on D, but they can't stop them either"

Zaidman then argues, "Give me a guy then that can shut down Dwight Howard"....Here is an idea, wish in one hand, Howry in the other and tell me what fills up faster. He honestly said that. He the goes on to rant how the great Bulls teams has such great individual defenders during their run. Does he even realize the rule changes since the 90's? It is pretty hard now for any player to shut down another who has elite scoring skills. Teams that defend well do it because of effort and well executed game plans. One reason the Bulls defense sucks and will continue to suck is their mind boggling strategy of switching on every high screen. I really don't understand what they are trying to accomplish with that.

Why the hell was Thabo in the game?

Also, nice effort tonight from our 70 million dollar man!

The invisible man was at it again tonight.

What a shame to see Gordon and Rose's good games go to waste.

An average Luol Deng tonight and the Bulls win the game VERY EASILY, prolly around the 10-15 points. Subpar Deng and tonight is the product. I hate it. One night very good Deng, next night Eddie Robinson.
