I don't live in Chicago but from my perspective when JR said he'd trade all 6 NBA championships for one World Series it wasn't as controversial is it should have been. Was it a big deal over there? It didn't make many waves nationally that I can recall. It's a flabbergasting thing to say and a huge slap to all basketball fans in the area who pretty much only root for the Bulls.

No it wasn't contreversial, it's just annoyed the piss out of Cubs fans who were/are Bulls fans.

Porter out. Gentry replaces. Amare next?

Paul Coro made it official today....

I wonder why the Suns insisted on denying the rumors so vehemently on Friday. Seems mishandled.

Also hearing Monday or sooner an Amare to Bulls trade will be announced possibly involving Dudley and Amundson with Drew Gooden and Tyrus Thomas coming back along with another player.

I am not a big fan of this trade if that's what ends up happening.

This blog was the first to report Porter would be fired a few days ago, FWIW.

Kenny Smith is so amazing. Why have I not heard much of him before? He's ripping everyone!

Do you not watch NBA on TNT?

I don't watch much basketball unless the Bulls are on.

admittedly i dont watch as much basketball as i would like to, but how is shaq an all star? his numbers arent anything special.

Besides Yao who else is a good center in the West? Keep in mind that Bynum is hurt.

Some dude on RealGM named "Black Jesus" reported the deal was done a few days ago. They don't know if he's legit or not.

From Hollinger's mid-ASG chat

John Hollinger: (8:47 PM ET ) As for Porter, In think the change will help since Gentry will be more like D'Antoni as a coach. Not sure what it means for Amer yet. There' s an emerging school of thought that he'll be kept until summer now, mostly because the Suns haven't been bowled over by offers. Problem with that is that you can't trade him for an expiring in the summer-- it has to be to a team that already has cap space or a big exception.

Jarrod (Chicago): JH- Can you give us any predictions on how the Amare saga ends?

SportsNation John Hollinger: (9:03 PM ET ) Still think it's Chicago at the end of the day, but we could see a sleeper team emerge here. A lot of clubs have the assets but haven't been big players in the bidding so far -- any of them could decide to pile in at the last minute.

I don't think Hollinger has any inside info. I think he's just speculating. The Suns front office knew they were going to fire Porter before they made Amare available.

Zak (Tucson): What is the top value you think the Suns could get for Amare? Any big names that would help? Or is it more likely they could only achieve a little cap space and young talent to go with it?

SportsNation J.A. Adande: (9:11 PM ET ) Word I got from a Suns source today is that an Amare trade is looking less likely. They heard all kinds of big names, but were under orders to get desirable expiring, contracts. Remember, none of this is about the team, it's about the accounting books.

I posted in the RealGM thread that that makes no sense. If they were trading Amare for salary reasons all along, it makes no sense to wait until the offseason. Same goes for the rumor that they may want to keep Amare and go more uptempo again. They were never trading him for basketball reasons, IMO.

Nothing major, just more from RealGM:

Talks between the Suns and Bulls regarding Amare Stoudemire have intensified, according to three people with knowledge of the situation.

CBSSports.com is reporting that the interest from Phoenix in working with the Bulls on a trade is because of their apparent increased desire to acquire Tyrus Thomas.

One rival executive familiar with the talks said Portland evidently is no longer an option.
