Last night, I was in scrap the team mode. Now, that Im in a more rational state of mind, I say changes need to be made.

If there was a way to get a mutual opt out between the Cubs and Kosuke, Id be all for it. Probably not going to happen though

Biggest needs

-legit number 3 or 4 hitter

-middle reliever to get us to Marmol/Wood

-starter-be it Ryan Dempster or go after someone else, like CC, Lowe, or Peavy

Players rumerd available through trade-Matt Holliday, Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Eric Byrnes, Jake Peavy

Available free agents-Adam Dunn, MIlton Bradley, CC Sabathia, not sure who else

Tradeable assets for the Cubs-Sean Marshall, Mike Fontenot, Felix Pie, Josh Vitters, Jeff Samardzjia, Josh Vitters, Ronny Cedeno, Ryan Theriot, Jose Ceda, Juan Ascanio, Mitch Atkins, Tyler Colvin, Jason Marquis

New Owner-Cuban please?

At any rate, I will be very dissapointed if we dont get at least 1 big name added during the off season.

Not nearly enough energy to think about this right now.

I wasn't necessarily expecting rational thinking. More of a distraction/vent type deal.

In the meantime, I've got an overhead projector to poop on.

OK, plant HGH in everyone's lockers, get all their contracts voided, and then start spending.

Sign Tex. Get rid of Lee.

Sign Furcal. Get rid of Theriot.

Trade for McLouth.

Trade for Peavy.

They might go after McLouth.

Is it possible to get rid of Lee? NTC, right?

I'd be wary of Adam Dunn in the outfield, but what about playing him at first?

I'm sure if they were like "We don't want you anymore, we are going to trade you" he would probably accept it. I could be wrong though.

Haha, my post is full of improbable acquisitions.

I mean, seriously, the Cubs could trade their whole farm and not be able to get McLouth and Peavy.

There's no way that the Cubs trade Lee or Theriot. Lee is the high character leader of this team and Theriot is loved by Hendry and Lou. The best that we can hope for is moving Lee out of the 3rd spot in the lineup. I'm all in favor of going after McLouth which means the end of Felix Pie. As I posted in the thread about Peavy, the price will be ridiculous (probably 5 players). As others have posted, unless there's a way out of either Soriano or Fukudome's contract, CF is the only real opening to explore (McLouth or Beltran?).

I think that one way to make a big trade splash would be to sell Ryan Theriot while his value is at the highest that it will ever be. I am not saying this because I am not a big Theriot fan, but because I actually believe that we should be doing this sometimes. See 2005 Derek Lee.

If we could get Harden for a bag of garbage, its possible.

I know this isn't a realistic thread, at least not at this point, but Lee has a full NTC.

Which he can waive, it's certainly not impossible to trade him.

I think there are a lot of NTCs on the Cubs which makes trades a whole lot harder. I can't see Lee waiving his NTC.

We have a lot of good hitters, but no superstar. We have a very good rotation, but no true ace we can count on for next year. Trade whoever it takes other than Soto for Peavy.

1. Get a good owner.

2. Vitters, Ceda, Theriot, Castillo, Atkins, Cashner (as a PTBNL), Samardzija (pay him to waive the NTC), Pie, Colvin for Peavy/Greene.

3. Give Manny 2 years/$50M

4. Bring back Demp and Wood, all other free agents can go.

5. Give Marquis away

6. Sign a middle reliever like Juan Cruz.

7. Try to convice Fukudome to go back to Japan. He won't go.

Soriano, Lee, Manny, ARam, Soto, DeRosa, Fukudome, Greene, P

Peavy, Harden, Z, Dempster, Lilly

Wood, Marmol, Cruz, Guzman, Marshall, Cotts, whoever

Fontonot, Johnson, Hoff, Cedeno, Hill

Line up is pretty much all righties. I don't care. Bullpen looks thin, I guess. We have 0 prospects left. Payroll will probably be over 160M, probably not realistic, but I'm not in the mood to be realistic yet.

lol, and they'd probably lose in the first round again. Chokers. You should've included that they should also take some sort of "anti-choking pills".

It won't happen, but yeah if that's what it took, I'd do it. Pie has little value right now. Colvin sucks. I'm not a big Samardzija fan, I don't think he would be a big loss. Is Atkins going to be an impact major leaguer? Jury is out on Castillo. If I am correct (and I may not be), he wasn't much of a hitter before this season, and he isn't going to hit for power.

So it really boils down to Vitters, Theriot, and 3 young relief pitchers for 4 years of an ace and a SS upgrade in 09.

Yeah, I'd do it. Would the Padres?

Find a power hitting RF

Fuku to CF with Reed.

Dump Marquis' salary.

Lock up Wood (3 years) and Dempster (4-5 years) on "hometown discount" deals.

Soriano

Lee

Ramirez

RF

Soto

DeRosa

CF Platoon

Theriot

Zambrano, Harden, Dempster, Lilly, Marshall/Samardzija/Hill/etc

Wood, Marmol, Wuertz, Cotts, Gaudin, Marshall/Samardzija/Guzman/etc

Hoffpauir, Blanco, Fontenot, Cedeno, Fukudome

Id rather let Pie play with Reed sharing time in CF. Its time to let the Pie Era begin, and let him get as many chances as Fuku has this year.

Yeah, i'd rather put Pie in center and let him start also. But, just curious, who is that "power hitting right fielder that we should and could get?
