I have no reservations saying that the White Sox "blackout" by the fans was bad ass. In comparison to our fan's level of excitement (at least what we saw on TV), it was embarrassing to say the least. It was worth mentioning.

We should prove them wrong....

I can't recall another veteran announcer making as many mistakes as Stockton does...Two I caught were:

After the top of the 7th, as they were going to break, Dick said "And we're heading on to the 8th inning."

After a 2-2 count, Dick referred to the count being 1-2...what did he TiVo rewind himself?

He's not a veteran baseball announcer. He was for some bizarre reason forced in there last year after probably not watching a baseball game in 30 years.

he's not much of a football announcer either, and he's been doing that for the better part of 3 centuries

The guy's like 124 give him a break.

him commenting on how the white sox crowd was going nuts and the cubs crowd was quite. No s hit that tends to happen when your team is losing.

To be fair, he made that remark before we were losing.

he also made it afterwards.

But his point was valid. You can jump all over him all you want, but give him credit when he's right.

Almost every teams stadium would be going nuts in a 1 game playoff. If I recall correctly wrigley field was going nuts during their one game playoff against sf. He was comparing apples to oranges in my opinion so I feel it belongs in the category of dumb things said.

I agree. To point out the crowd was quiet is fair, but to compare it over and over again to the Sox crowd for a 1-off do-or-die game isn't the same thing. Gwynn or Darling did point that out, but this isn't about smart points Tony and Ron say. It was at least as dumb as him mixing up the count or some of the other stuff in here.

It's a little bit like NFL Network bringing whichever Gumbel it was in the first season of their football games. He was terrible and really had no business being back in the booth.

The difference, though, is that Gumbel was at least a football announcer for a few years. I'm not sure Stockton ever did a baseball game before last season.

I was going to lose it if they talked about or showed Manny's homer one more time.

No kidding... They were on Manny's jock all night. My friends and I were joking that if it wasnt for Manny, Loney doesnt hit the slam.

Hm, the similarities between him and the bad Gumbel grow even more.

Ryan Theriot went to LSU.... as you can tell from his French sounding last name.

I was a little dumbfounded when he said that.

uh why? theriot....fontenot...what was the LSU QB's name..Perllioux? those are typical Nawlins names

There are certainly a large number of players who go there with french-sounding names, but that's not the only place they go.

There are also players with French-sounding names who go to other colleges and there are players at LSU who don't have French-sounding names. It's not one of the dumbest things he said, but it stuck out to me.

I didn't notice cause he called it a strike out.

I didn't realize this until just now when looking at the box score, but I'm pretty sure Stockton never even mentioned that Daryle Ward pinch hit for Marquis in the ninth inning and said that it was Marquis batting.

I just don't remember him saying the name "Daryle Ward" and I remember thinking it was odd that Marquis was batting. Correct me if I'm wrong.

He said Daryle. I remember being surprised that he in fact said the name Daryle and not something stupid.

Soriano missed 85 games this year?

Well if you count the 50 he actually missed and the other 35 where he waved at sliders all day long, then yeah.

*shrug*

That would be 50 he missed and 35 you wish he missed. Someone else would have had to make those 150 outs.
