Hey there, last thing...really need to go.

On the HR call, I don't have one. I don't intend on getting one. I believe every HR is different. The risk is that I could mess it up, but the reward for me is that every one is different. Some surprise me, some are no-doubters. I like to call them accordingly. Again, it's a personal preference. I also like to wait until I know it's gone. I'd rather build up to the HR as opposed to get too excited too soon for a warning track shot. I'm always looking to improve and make my calls and especially HR calls better. No question about that...I've had some that I felt could have been better. I just feel like if I fall back on something too much, the call becomes too routine and therefore, to me, not as exciting. That's just me. There are some GREAT HR calls out there. I just don't want to force it. I mean, other than getting excited, I don't feel the need to "craft" a clever line. I think the HR itself is exciting. And to overdo it would be to try to take the spotlight and that's not my bag.

i agree with you 100%, but on the other hand, me and my girlfriend probably reference your "ATTA BOY JIMMAY, WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" call at least 5 times a week. i know you were honoring brickhouse, but that call is probably my favorite call in cubs history.

Couldn't agree more. I know that that call could probably not be replicated, but it gives me goosebumps nonetheless.

When I was like 10, some schmuck from my hometown's local newspaper wrote an article about why Harry Carrey should be "put out to pasture". I wrote a response arguing it's absurdity and it got published a few days later. While there's only one Harry, Len and Bob are just about as much as I could ever ask for. As an mlb.tv customer, I've come to appreciate them even more over the majority of non-professional hacks that seem voice the other 29 teams.

I know this sounds like a "suck-up" post, but honestly, you guys are the best in the business as far as I'm concerned.

This is so awesome that Len posted on here and recognizes all the great fans that there are even including the ones from WI (which includes myself). Cant wait for the postseason to start and hey Len I still wana challenge to a game of Guitar Hero like I told you I would after the 2nd game vs Milwaukee at Miller Park.

That was fantastic, but the Aramis walk-off against the Brewers last year is gonna go down in Cubs lore with his voice over the highlight, and every time I hear/see it I get goosebumps.

Good having you on here, Len. Thanks for being such an awesome dude.

Oh, and you get triple cool points for liking Superdrag.

That I definitely agree with. I cant stand most announcers from other teams, and the Cubs seem to have found the best duo out there. I was one of the people who was rooting hard for Pat Hughes and Ron Santo to move to the TV booth when Chip and Steve left town, and though I still looooove Pat as a broadcaster, I have to say that I'm very happy.

And my post about the home run calls... I wasn't saying that I want some lame ass "you can put it on the board" type of crap, it just always struck me as odd how on a no doubt shot Len seemed to not know whether it was gonna go or not. Now that I see the explanation though, it makes much more sense.

If this is the philosophy of which "Ramirez hits a drive... DEEP LEFT CENTER!! CUUUU[puberty squeak]UUUUUBS WIIINN!!!!" was borne, then it is the product of unadulterated genius.

Hey, Len: Thanks so much for popsting here and celebrating with us. First step towards the WS, and we are loving every minute of it.

By the way, The Dandy Warhols are a great band.

P.S., Chip's HR call is excellent. I think he calls HRs as well as anybody out there today. I'd put him right near the top of the list.

There might be something that your fan club doesn't agree with you on, after all! ;)

I am personally a fan of Chip for the most part.

Hey, I admit there are balls that fool me on occasion. It does happen and I think that's a completely valid criticism of my work, I really do. I wish I knew it every time. But I hate to guess. Sometimes you actually have to guess because you at least know it's going to be close and you feel the crowd's excitement. But there are also times when the crowd's excitement fools you into thinking a ball is gone when in fact, it is caught on the track. Again, right or wrong, sometimes I just wait a half-second to make sure.

Understood, but Soto's HR on Thursday was long gone, and it took you a bit of time ;)

Better safe than sorry, for sure though! :D

And you're right, Wrigley thinks everything is gone

Hey Len, thanks for dropping by. You do a great job in the booth.

Now that I've kissed your butt, can you hook me up with some World Series tickets? Bleacher seats would be perfect. Thanks in advance.

well, well, well. look who's suddenly a Len fan.

"Oh BAYBAY!" is awesome in its Gus Johnson- ness. Not hearing it every time someone goes deep makes it that much more spectacular.

Len and Bob are easily the best since Harry and Steve, and even better than those two in some ways. I definitely think they are among the best duos of today.

Len and Bob are defintely as god as it gets. Took me a while to warm up to them at first, as I was so used to Stoney, but they grew on me pretty quick. Thank god we dont have some blithering mad man talking about duck snorts and cans of corn.

Great response. Unfortunately for me, I didn't get to see the Cubs clinch at all yesterday. Len and Bob have a knack of getting people excited about the game they are watching with their own styles. Keep on keepin' on.

It's very cool to see you here and sharing in an exciting moment with the die hardest of Cub fans. Hope there is another thread just like this after the World Series.

Actually, I'm not from Detroit. I'm from Shepherd, a small town of 1500 in the middle part of Michigan (lower peninsula). About a 5-hour drive from Chicago and 3 from Detroit.

Isn't there some sort of "corn queen" crowned in Shepherd? I only ask b/c I think the secretary that sits outside my office knows you from Shepherd and we give her a hard time for being corn queen.

Oh - and great work.

This is great.

I wish every PBP guy would follow suit. A standard, "pre-packaged" home run call takes some of the excitement out of the moment for me.

Len and Bob are a terrific team, and I hope the Cubs keep them around for a long time.

Perhaps it's the association to Sosa, but I always enjoy's Chip's HR call.

Len, have you spent much with pitchf/x data? Any thoughts on the system and what it can offer a broadcast while it is in its infancy stage?
