If Derrek is the great team player that everyone says he is (And I believe he is), then he should have no problem with Lou dropping his ass to 6th in the order.

Can we win in the postseason with his lack of production? Why does Lou move everyone else in the order around but not Lee?

Only Lou knows that. Nobody here has any idea.

because it doesn't make a difference

Well, the lineup order doesn't really make a difference, but it matters that Lee is getting more PAs than hitters who are clearly better. Also I can't stand seeing Lee bat in the first inning anymore. It's like the best you can hope for is a couple guys on for Ramirez.

Where has Lee's power gone? Im quite confused about this.. Ive heard people say he lost it with the wrist injury. But, thats just not true he had it at the end of last year and the first 2 months of this year even. He hit like 16 HR's in the 1st 2 months of the season, so its not like he hadnt had power this year. Going off the top of my head Lee has only hit 1 HR since the game against the Sox when Rammy and him went back to back off Dotel.

I wonder if he is injured or something cause its amazing he was hitting for that much power early in the season and just lost it..

Lee is really frustrating lately.

During our losing streak he basically went without any RBI. He's become an unproductive singles hitter recently, getting base hits with two outs and nobody on, as supported by his lack of Runs scored.

Lee does hit a lot of singles, apparently, and his DPs have been down. Good for him. Sounds like a good 2 or 6 hitter. The problem is, our lineup doesnt really have that solid number 3 type hitter, but then again, a lot of teams dont. We cant all have an A Rod, Pujols, or Berkman. Soriano seems like a good fit, but hes so damn streaky and inconsistant, and we dont know what hed do out of the 3 hole, and were not at the point in the season where we should be testing it. Maybe if we can clinch early enough, Lou can try it, and see how it works. The best bet would be Aramis at 3 and Soto at 4. Worth a try anyway.

Soriano

Theriot

Ramirez

Soto

DeRosa

Lee

whoevers in center

whoevers in right

could be worth a try for a few games.

I'm confused as to why there is so much DLee hate, other than the obvious fact that his performance doesn't match his paycheck.

Its not about hate, hes just in the wrong part of the order. Lou has experimented with every spot in the lineup, except for 1, 3, and 4. Your #3 guy should be your best all around hitter. Thats not Lee anymore. Hed be great somewhere lower in the order.

because it doesn't make a difference

Except that Lou obviously doesn't buy into that philosophy because he moves everyone else around in the order. So that doesn't explain why he won't move Lee down.

And I support a move down for Lee, because there are better bats who would get more PAs.

It might in a short series, but then again he could get red hot in a short series, so I guess in the end you are right.

I'm more interested at this point in finding out what happened to the guy. His fall from productivity was much quicker and pronounced than other hitters. Something had to have happened. Could it be the wrist? I don't know -- he was productive after that wrist injury, at least for a time. So I just don't know.

i'm finally open to moving him down at this point, though i still don't consider a big issue. i'd probably hit him sixth with Ramirez, Soto, Derosa going 3-5.

I'm not a fan of his blatant lack of hustle on multiple plays over the past 2 seasons. It seems like he pouts when he's not performing, yet claims to be a leader.

Cedeno could get hot too. I think it's wishful thinking that Lee might get hot again (i.e. starts hitting for power). He's been too cold for too long. Maybe he strings together some singles. I can hope for that.

Take out his outlier year (2005)

OPS by year:

.820

.872

.887

.860

.842 (injury year)

.913

.820

HR by year:

21

27

31

32

8

22

21 (on pace)

Obviously the biggest concern is he's been a .750 OPS hitter since April

I guess it doesn't make much sense to me that most of the people in this thread want Lee out of the 3-hole, yet most are completely fine with Soriano batting leadoff.

Cause Soriano is a good hitter.

can't do it.

*Walks from 1st base to abuck on the pitching mound*

It's probably time to let it go. I'm dropping some leadership isht on you because I cover that particular base over there. OK, bye.

*Walks back to 1st base*

Agree, Soriano is actually showing quite a bit more patience than Lee, lately. Over the last 10 games, Soriano has walked 8 times, Lee 4

Derrek's propensity to swing at the first pitch with a pitcher who just walked 2 batters is extremely frustrating.
