There are 20 scheduled MLB games tomorrow with 6 double-headers.

There were 2 double-headers scheduled anyway, and 4 of tonights postponements are going to be double-headers tomorrow.

The MIL/PHI game will likely get rained out tomorrow. This is ironic: They could play 2 on Sunday and one on Monday...

Bruce weighs in on the Miller Park scenario.

Link.

I don't doubt the poster from Brewerfan, but the question remains. Were they definitely setting it up or just inquiring could employees come into work if they were to schedule the game? Word is that they also checked in Atlanta as well.

There's a possibility that they are setting up to play in Milwaukee, or they may just be checking with venues to see what options they have before making a decision.

Just spoke to a friend of mine in Houston. She lives inland and has stayed put. She's already without electricity and it's not even raining there yet. She's further inland than downtown. She doesn't see how they will play a game in Houston.

Personally, none of it makes sense at this point. The Cubs can get to a neutral site, but how in the heck are the Astros supposed to get anywhere for Sunday?

Well in the article about Miller Park hosting the games on the Astros site, there is an added twist.

Link.

"That is way premature," club owner Drayton McLane said Friday night. "The Commissioner has agreed to see how Houston fares after the storm hits. That would be midday [saturday]. No decision will be made until then."

Should Minute Maid Park weather the storm without major damage, McLane is confident the Astros and Cubs will play Sunday. They could host a doubleheader that day with a single game played on Monday, a mutual off-day for the Astros and Cubs.

"If the storm hits Houston, if it has not been severe and we still have power at Minute Maid Park and no flooding, the last key issue is we need the Cubs to be able to fly into Intercontinental [Airport] so we can play Sunday," McLane said. "That is the hope. The Commissioner makes the final decision. We'll look for a decision to come down midday Saturday."

So, it appears that nothing will be decided until the damage in Houston is assessed. I guess will just have to keep an eye on the weather channel all evening and tomorrow morning.

I really see no possible way to play the games in Houston, or for the Cubs to make it to Houston tom. The city is going to be complete chaos till probably at least Tuesday.

This isn't something you wait out only to find out you can't play on Sunday. They should be finalizing plans tonight to guarantee a game being played on Sunday.

You'd have to think they'd be able to bus to either San Antonio or Austin.

Has anyone brought up the move of Cleveland's home games to Milwaukee due to snow in April 2007? Those games were at the beginning of the season so had ample time to be made up but were moved anyway. I cannot believe Selig is caving to the Astros whining like this.

Drayton McLain can go take a flying leap.

If he hadn't been fighting this so hard, the Brewers could have been gone after their game last night to another city and avoided all this. (of course, with the weather situation all over, TB would have been the only realistic choice [from his POV], or maybe ATL).

Depending on where they are, I think so. There is no major flooding in Houston right now. They couldn't fly out of Houston, but they could catch a bus to Austin or San Antonio and get out. Will they be able to on Saturday? I don't know.

One problem I find in McLain's plan is while they may be able to fly the Cubs in, there may be no flooding in downtown, and they may have electricity at MMP; but will they be able to get workers and would it be possible for fans to get to the games? I have tickets, so if they are playing Sunday or they going to let me drive my ass into Houston for some ballgames? Because if I can't, then the Astros still better give me a refund for my tickets.

It was a bad decision yesterday, and it will continue to be a bad decision.

I can't wait to see what bad idea he comes up with to solve future hurricane scheduling issues.

I know he's fighting for his team, and that's commendable, but I'd really like to give a big rousing round of applause for both Drayton McLane and Bud Selig.

Drayton, thanks for caring about money more than your own team or its loyal fans. I know the MLB is big business, but forcing the issue with a high-Cat2/low-Cat3 hurricane bearing down on your hometown and ballpark??

Bud, thank you for being such a spineless wuss and not putting your foot down in telling the Astros, and Cubs, you are going to either TB or ATL to play this weekend. Houston, you'll use those gates to help replace the refunds of tickets you sold for this weekend's scheduled games in MMP.

Let's hear it everybody! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Dear God, Drayton McLane, have you ever been through a hurricane before?

This isn't like that episode of The Simpsons with the hurricane, where everything is fine after the storm is over (except Flanders' house). Even the Bowl-A-Rama was fully functional hours after the storm. Yeah, it's not going to be like that.

Another article on the games being moved to Miller Park.

Link.

got it confirmed from a Brewers official that MLB and the Astros and Cubs are discussing options, including playing the series at Miller Park. The Astros originally balked when that idea was suggested Thursday because Houston recognizes the switch would in essence give the Cubs three home games at "Wrigley Field North."

But, if they can't figure out a way to squeeze these games in at Minute Maid Park on Sunday and Monday, MLB doesn't want them to be made up after the season. That would push the NL playoffs back several days.

If that series is moved to Miller Park, there would be a game later in the day Sunday and a doubleheader on Monday. And you can bet Cubs fans would flock from Illinois to attend those games.

I think MLB is about 2 days behind where they should be in the decision making process.

Considering the possible damage Houston area is going to face, I doubt they will go around Houston seeing how the city fares against the storm. Considering I'm looking at the 12 hour forcast, and at midday Saturday, Houston is expect to still be "under heavy rain and winds---winds are projected to be at 40 mph.". I doubt Selig and McClane and whoever will be out in that weather on Saturday. The earliest they will be able to see how Houston is after Ike's damaged would be Sunday night. IMO, I doubt any of the games will be played in Houston, despite McClane villiany about having care for money over safety. Even if they deem the field decent enough by Sunday, nobody will be out to watch the game due to more important issues.

Bottomline: McClane is fighting the good fight, but ultimately he is losing the fight.

Selig should be fired immediately over this idiocy. Completely unforgiveable.

If the games aren't played before the end of the regular season and the Cubs have clinched by then they seriously should just forfeit the games and be properly rested for the playoffs. It's not their responsibility to tire themselves out to accommodate other teams when the situation could easily have been prevented.

Posted

Thinking about this, I came up with somewhat of a baseball analogy.

This is like a manager going out to the mound to talk to a pitcher who everyone can tell is struggling and has nothing left and the pitcher talks the idiot manager into letting him stay in the game. Of course the pitcher wants to stay in the game just like McClane wants to play these games in Houston. McClane talked Selig into trying to play the games in Houston, only now everything's getting effed up.

Selig is the one in power who has the ultimate say just like the manager and it's Selig's decision to step in.

I hope everyone and every building in Houston is going to be okay (I know that restaurant on fire already so obviously this isn't going to be the case) with the exception of Minute Maid Park, which I could care less at this point if it sustains damage. Screw you, McClane and screw you, Bud Selig.
