I don't like the Miller move at all. He sucks. Bad ankle my butt. He's old, was mediocre at his peak, and sucks now. Why cut a potentially promising line prospect for this type of depth? Sure, Barton could be added to the practice squad, but then you just have to cut another practice squad guy to make room. If Fred Miller plays, he's going to suck, so how in the hell does he provide depth?

I for one am going to enjoy his many drive killing false starts this year.

Apparently, he's a backup, but we'll see how long that lasts. I don't care how good St. Clair supposedly was last week...his starters job is in jeopardy

Harris has wanted a little revenge ever since.

“Absolutely, I’m excited,” Harris said of this Sunday’s matchup against the Bears at Bank of America Stadium. “I circled that game on my calendar the minute I saw it in the off-season. I have been waiting to play them. I wish we could have played them last year.”

When asked if his motivation is to prove Bears management wrong, Harris replied, “I think I’ve already proved them wrong.”

His goal now is to make the Bears pay.

“I was a little bitter when it happened, of course,” Harris said. “I’m pretty sure most people would be. But I’m their opponent now, so I’m going to give them hell.”

i have no idea who to pick in this game. i expected both teams to get beaten fairly easily last week, and they both won. confidence is low.

yea, I dont know. I hate to be overconfident from a nice win @ Indy, but I think its entirely possible the Bears could win this one as well.

Completely agree. I'd rather have Barton.

I have a feeling this game will be tougher than last week.

Yup, the Panthers are always a tough draw. The Colts just didn't plain show up last week, and the Bears overpowered them. But the Panthers will show up.

Games against Carolina seem to be the most exciting, at least for me, since I live in NC. So I can't wait till we *hopefully* blow their brains out.

Good lord, Muhammad said something similar the other day. I have a feeling we'll get nothing out of either as they get caught up in playing the Bears.

And in answer to Cuse asking if we can stop the run, we're decent, not great. Good linebackers. Forte will probably get his yards, though, somewhere between 3-4 a carry I'm guessing.

I'll probably be one of the few people in the stadium rooting for the Bears.

I love that matchup against the Panthers without Steve Smith. If Smith wasn't suspended I would give the Panthers the advantage, but without Smith, I almost see the Bears beating the Panthers by 2 scores.

Smith is a good WR, no doubt. I don't think he is still a great WR though. I think everybody is putting way too much stock in a game that happened 3 years ago (edit: he actually had 14 catches in the regular season matchup too). He's 29 now. Steve Smith was in his prime then. Chris Thompson was on the Bears roster. If you seriously think the Bears will win by 2 scores w/o Smith and lose with him, that means you think Steve Smith makes up at least 10 points by himself. That's just not the case. I don't believe that it ever was, even as good as his 2005 season was.

I keep reading about how the Panthers held LT to under 100 yards last week! What a misleading piece of crap reporting! First of all, LT had 97 yards. Secondly, he only had 21 carries for an average of 4.6 ypc.

You want to know what LTs career numbers are? 96 yards per game and 4.5 per carry. So, all Carolina did is not let LT go nuts on them. Congratulations! While they were holding LT to his average game, they allowed Phillip Rivers to finish the game with a 125 passer rating.

Well it's a different matchup for us than the Colts. That's what worries me the most. I do like that SD was able to pass on them. I'm not sure how the pass rush matchups will go. I know Pep is good, but we can compensate if it's just one guy.

I suggest we switch our running game to the outside to stay away from their interior line. We won't have the luxury of going up against smaller DTs this game, but that doesn't mean we can't get some room for Forte to run. It just has to be done differently.

It's such a different opponent I can't say the Colts game means much of anything in terms of any kind of prediction about this one.

Meh. The Dolphins picked up Barton.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

:-))

Anyway, I took the 3.5 points this weekend. Last weekend completely went against my expectations. But I'm not going as far as saying they will do the same this weekend.

If they do win this game though, winning the division is well within their grasp.

Even now, Smith still requires double coverage, regardless. Smith is a guy who can dominate a game as much as any WR can in today's game. His mere presence forces teams to account for him, which opens up room for either the slant or the flanker, and the TE and the RB. So to downplay his importance isn't necessarily a smart thing to do. Now, I will give you this, overstating his presence---like most---is also not a smart thing to do. But the fact remains, Smith can and will change a game if the opportunity arises, which has happen more then once.

With that said, I think the Bears can win by 2 scores. I am not impressed with Carolina's skilled players.

Steve Smith finished last season with over 1,000 yards receiving with 2 and a half games of Jake Delhomme, and the rest of the season with David Carr, Vinny Testaverde and Matt Moore. In my biased mind, that's still pretty damn impressive. Not that it matters since he obviously won't be in there, but he's still an elite receiver.

I think he is. He's also a punk, but he's an elite receiver.

Any Panthers fans know how Jarrett is progressing? Is he going to be in the mix or buried once Smith gets back?

The USC receivers outside of the "other" Steve Smith haven't been looking too good in the pros. I thought Colbert had a good rookie year but he really regressed.

Jarrett had a pretty decent game against San Diego, including a really nice leaping catch on the final drive. I have high hopes for him, but for now I think he's the 4th receiver behind Moose, Hackett and Smith. Hopefully not having the pressure on him that he did last year (being drafted to be the no. 2 essentially after Keyshawn was inexcusably released) will help him.

Even though Ike is expected to have no impact on North Carolina weather (not even remnant rains) it may keep me from going to the game anyway. There's a real gas crisis in the area (many stations out of gas, others charging over $4 per gallon, a few reportedly even over $5), and if it sounds like that may continue I'm not sure I want to make a trip that's about three hours in each direction with that uncertainty. I'll be watching the news for reports tonight and will probably decide at the last minute tomorrow. If it were anybody other than the Bears (and maybe the Colts) playing at Carolina I would have already decided not to go and just write off the cost of the ticket (which is a sunk cost anyway).
