CHICAGO -- On Monday, the Cubs will open a three-game series against the Astros and welcome reinforcements to Wrigley Field.

Teams can expand their rosters on Sept. 1 beyond 25 players, and the Cubs will add Micah Hoffpauir, Koyie Hill, Michael Wuertz and Casey McGehee from Triple-A Iowa, and activate Jon Lieber and Angel Guzman from the disabled list.

meh, except for Gooz

I'm pumped about Hoffpauir. Gooz too - but mainly Hoffpauir. I think both could make the playoff roster with a good September.

I'm happy Pie isn't coming up yet. I'd rather he play in the Iowa playoffs then sit on the Cubs bench and pinch run every once in awhile. Edited by ChiCubsFan

Good to know Koyie Hill is coming up. He's the key to the Cubs getting out of their offensive funk.

Wow, just noticed this was posted in Minor Leagues

delete if you must, mods

Eh, it was a part of a thread originally about potential September callups. This thread works as a discussion about the specific guys who got called up.

For those of you who want to see the chatter, here is the original thread.

if the cubs seriously didn't call people up because they are concerned about iowa in the playoffs, they are a bunch of idiots.

Yeah, I doubt that's why Pie wasn't called up.

I'd rather they were just being stupid about the AAA playoffs?

EDIT: I'm Ron Burgundy?

Actually I bet he wasn't called up because of the playoffs just not for the reasons people would think. What will serve best for Pie? Being called up and be the third guy in a rotation for the CF spot (maybe fourth with Fukudome) or stay in the minors and play in some big games in as good as you can get playoff atmosphere? He will be more on his game if needed due to injury of a funk playing everyday in minor league playoffs then being a defensive sub late or pinch runner.

IMO it's to keep giving him AB's until their season is over.

I dont know, I think that Iowa may have something to do with it. Its not like Pie and Hart are guys that will be keys to us in September, but they would be to Iowa. Piewould be a pinch runner, and if they really want that, they can grab Fuld from Tennesee, and Hart would probably be used for mop up duty and make big defecits bigger.

There's nothing that says Pie can't be called up after Iowa's season ends. Pie could be valuable as a pinch runner and defensive replacement after his season ends.

This is silly. Hoffpauir is as important to Iowa as Pie or Hart. If they wanted those guys up they'd be up. Obviously the importance is Pie's development not Iowa's playoff run. Hoffpauir will contribute more this year, Pie needs at bats.

I'm guessing this stems from the disciplinary issues he reportedly had earlier this season when he was shipped back to Mesa.

Looks like Chad Fox was moved to the 60-day DL and Rich Hill called up and placed on the big league 15-day DL (lower back soreness).

I assume you mean 60 day DL? Putting him on the 15 day does nothing.

cubs.com has it as 15 day. Isn't that 41 guys on the 40 man?

Or I can't count. Why bother putting Rich on the DL?

You really think Guz has a chance to make the playoff roster?

I think Hoff will (replacing Ward) but I think Guz is a stretch.
