Raisin eluded to this in a separate thread, talking about Cashner and Shafer hopefully starting in Daytona next year. Where do we expect guys to begin next year? Here are my guesses anyway.......

Iowa

Veal

Caridad

Ceda(if he doesn't make the major league squad)

Lambert

Atkins

Colvin

Spears

Tenn

Maestri

Carrillo

Jackson(at least it seems possible, right?)

Chen

Papelbon

Thomas

Castillo

Daytona

Hernandez

Coleman(possible anyway?)

Shafer

M Smith

Rosa

Samson

Harrison

Peoria

Cashner

Carpenter

McDaniel

Rhee

Acosta

Searle

Vitters

Flaherty

Brenly

Rundle

Burke

Boise

Antigua

Y Gonzalez

Huseby

J Pena

Suarez

Castro

Lake

Cerda

Watkins

J Jones

N Perez

Arizona

M Perez

Mayora

Reyes

Spencer

Hams

Williams

Morales

Morelli

Hak-Ju

If I forgot anyone major, please feel free to add in where you think they may wind up. The only guys I'm thinking will "graduate" to the majors next year that are still ROY eligible though, are Samardzija obviously and Hoffpauir, taking over Ward's role.

Coleman(possible anyway?)

You wouldn't know this because Daytona's played 6 innings in the past week but Coleman is already in Daytona.

Dangit, had a nice post up w/ predictions and had to close out when the boss swung by my office. Let's try again:

First off, I think Jeff Samardzija breaks with AAA Iowa starting and Matt Craig and maybe Casey McGehee find new homes as minor league free agents. These things are pain in the necks when you get beyond the obvious prospects.

IOWA:

C Koyie Hill/Tony Richie

1B Doug Deeds

2B Nate Spears

SS Matt Camp or filler

3B Kyle Reynold or filler

LF Tyler Colvin

CF Sam Fuld

RF Jake Fox

SP Jeff Samardzija

SP Mitch Atkins

SP JR Mathes

SP Donnie Veal

SP Esmailin Caridad

RP Jose Ceda

RP Kevin Hart

RP Casey Lambert

RP Rocky Roquet

RP Dumas Garcia

TENN:

C Welington Castillo/Steve Clevenger

1B Russ Canzler/Blake Lalli

2B Tony Thomas

SS Darwin Barney

3B Josh Lansford

LF Ty Wright

CF Yusuf Carter

RF Jim Adduci/Ryan Harvey?

SP Jay Jackson

SP Billy Muldowney

SP James Russell

SP Hung-Wen Chen

SP Marcos Mateo or Marco Carrillo

RP Alex Maestri

RP Brian Schlitter

DAYTONA:

C Mark Reed/Luis Flores?

1B Jovan Rosa - I wish he'd get a chance at third, that'd mean Marquez Smith would have to start at AA

2B Josh Harrison - was tough picking him over Ryan Flaherty

SS Nate Samson

3B Marquez Smith

LF Dylan Johnston

CF Jonathan Wyatt

RF Brandon Guyer

DH Luis Bautista

SP Aaron Shafer

SP Casey Coleman

SP Kevin Kreier

SP Robert Hernandez

SP Jose Pina

RP Blake Parker

RP Jordan Latham

PEORIA:

C Carlos Perez/Mike Brenly

1B Rebel Ridling/Ryan Keedy

2B Marwin Gonzalez/Gian Guzman

SS Ryan Flaherty

3B Josh Vitters

LF Drew Rundle

CF Cliff Andersen/Tony Campana

RF Kyler Burke/Jericho Jones

DH Sean Hoorelbeke/Jones/Ridling/Brenly

SP Andrew Cashner - I thought he'd start at Daytona but his control hasn't been good enough thus far

SP Chris Carpenter

SP Ryan Searle

SP Jeff Beliveau

SP Larry Suarez - there's always a surprise young-ish guy...if not him, maybe Marcus Hatley or Julio Pena

RP Dan McDaniel

RP David Cales

RP Cedric Redmond

BOISE - obviously half of Boise's roster aren't in the system yet:

C Matt Cerda/Alvaro Sosa

2B Logan Watkins/Dwayne Kemp

SS Starlin Castro

3B Junior Lake/John Contreras

RF Nelson Perez

CF Kevin Soto

P Toby Matchulat

P Julio Pena

P Yohan Gonzalez

P Jeffry Antigua

RP Manolin De Leon

RP Tarlandas Mitchell

MESA (interesting guys):

SS Hak-Ju Lee

OF Sean Williams

OF Jesus Morelli

P Cody Hams

P Adam Spencer

P Marcos Perez

P Ramon Garcia

P Ramon Reyes

Rehabbers/Question Marks:

SP Dae-Eun Rhee (TJS)

SP Justin Bristow (elbow)

SP Jonathan Nagel (TJS)

SP Chris Huseby

SP Oswaldo Martinez (TJS)

SP Alberto Cabrera (shoulder)

SP Al Alburquerque (shoulder)

SP Rafael Dolis (shoulder)

RP Kitt Kopach (shoulder)

Mark Pawelek is gone.

ETA: Added Luis Bautista to Daytona and Rafael Dolis to the injury list.

Bautista would be your Daytona DH ?

What about Dolis..shouldnt he be ready for April 09? And i wouldnt be too surprised if Flaherty jumps Harrison. Or if Blake Parker makes AA.

Thanks, Nathan. That's who I had as my DH the first time I tried it.

From what I've heard about Dolis, he came back from the TJS rehab to be shut down with shoulder pain. I'd be happy if he gets in a box score or two anywhere next season.

The Flaherty vs Harrison was the toughest choice I had to make. It's not like Harrison is lighting the MWL on fire but would the Cubs double promote Flaherty and make him change a position?

I think Harvey stays in instructs as he converts to pitcher.

And I see little chance that Samardzija is in the Iowa rotation to start the season. If they haven't put him in the Cubs rotation, I doubt Lou would let him stay in AAA when he could be a power arm from the pen.

Otherwise, Raisin's list looks pretty good to me.

He has to agree to it, which is what is taking so long for it to happen.

Did Bristow have THS? I can't remember what happened with him?

He's in Mesa after leaving Boise with "elbow stiffness." Thus far, I haven't seen anything that indicates the severity or extend of his elbow injury.

1B Bryan Jost should be at Peoria.

I'm guessing Ridling/Johnston/Rosa/Smith will share DH at Daytona.

Rebel needs to start hitting over the Mendoza line at Peoria if he wants to begin next year at Daytona.

I don't think the Cubs have ever cared much about batting averages when it comes to bumping guys up to Daytona.

Jost has to end up in full season ball if the Cubs plan on doing anything with him. Maybe he'll end up in Daytona, but I get the feeling he'll be in Peoria next season.

I could definitely see them stretching out Samardzija at Iowa with Wood, Marmol, Guzman, Cotts, Marshall, Gaudin and Wuertz/ Ascanio rounding out the ML pen. Even if they trade Marquis or let Dempster walk, that would likely open a spot for Hill or Gaudin. Samardzija has more long term value as a SP and he would provide some depth in case Hill or Gaudin falter.

Rich Hill........seems like so long ago.

So he's trying to break Earl Cunningham's record for most seasons spent at High A ball?
