Losing is one thing, but that was ridiculous. Cordero has been awful, so Ramirez swings at ball 4, followed by Edmonds and Derosa taking called strikes right down the middle.

The Cubs looked liked they weren't really into the game tonight. I think they are becoming a bit complacent with where they are and the fact they have a 6 game lead in the loss column even after tonight.

 

It looked like a disinterested team tonight and even last night. The Brewers have played two more games then the Cubs, one of which the Cubs will make up tomorrow. They'll be back up 5.5 after tomorrow.

 

They actually look bored out there.

It's one freaking game and it's not even over yet.

 

But it's not just one game. The offense does this a lot.

 

 

 

Unpossible --- they aren't head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the NL by doing this alot. Poop happens.

 

 

We'll just take a quick peek at our last 3 losses. Now make it 4. Not including the blowout to the cards 12-3.

Florida L 2-1

Houston L 2-0

Pirates L 3-0

 

Need I go further? Ok

3 games where we scored 3 or more and lost

That is just a sample size, a lot of our losses are thanks to terrible hitting. And those games are just from now to the beginning of July. That is 11 games since July that our hitting has cost us any chance to win a ball game. 4 runs should be nothing to this lineup.

 

But I shouldn't really complain all to much we are tied for the best record in the majors, check that .5 back and tied for 2nd best record in the majors behind the Angels tied with the Rays. But it does happen a lot so your mention of why we are so far ahead is true but it isn't because our offense doesn't do this (what they did tonight) a lot because they do this a lot.

 

17-18 is our record in 1 run games and I would guess a majority of our 1 run wins come with more than 3 runs on the board and most of our 1 run losses come with 3 or less runs on the board.

What can be said about tonights game. Not a crushing blow, but definitely 2.5 hours of my life down the drain. Lilly didnt deserve the loss, but the Cubs didnt deserve to win. It seems that ever series lately aside from the Braves one we have that 1 game that we just cant put the damn bat on the ball when it counts. The Cubs and Reds had very similar offensive games, the difference being, they were able to cash in when they got RISP.

 

A Cubs/Reds series at Wrigley and no home runs so far. anythig less of a 12-1 win tommorow will be a dissapointment.

Really? What was it for? Besides the usual nonsense, that is. As for tonight's game, meh, they happen to every good team. Even in the playoffs. For a team that had won 16 of its past 20, I'd expect more slack for an off day. If it becomes more a matter of practice, that would be a different story. For now, it is just a regular loss. No biggie.
