Ok, back to the team numbers. 50-20 with, 26-28 without. Explain this.

Not a small sample size.

I guess that means Jason Bartlett gets the AL MVP then.

Tampa Bay's record when Jason Bartlett plays: 61-34 (.642)

Tampa Bay's record when Jason Bartlett doesn't play: 15-14 (.517)

This is like reading a game thread that Fred posts in.

Also, I've seen 3 different stats as to the Cubs record with and without Soriano in this thread. 2 have come from ChiCubsfan0502.

The Cubs have played 73 games with Soriano starting in LF, and 51 games without him. So, any stats that don't equal out to 73 with him and 51 without him are basically made up.

According to Baseball Reference:

When Soriano plays: 51-24

When he doesn't: 25-24

Yes, that's when he starts. I'm not sure how many games there were when he came in late in the game.

Nope. That's when he plays. They're 50-23 when he starts.

Ah, right. I even went and counted the 26-25 when he didn't start, and still missed the 2 game difference.

Yeah another thread on NSBB where three or four posters blow what someone says way out of the water and continue to run with it refusing to see at least some logic. No soriano wasn't the sole reason we were 26-28 without him but he was a large reason for it. A good portion of the time he was out our offense struggled mightly but once he came back it picked back up. He has a big impact on how our offense runs and he has dominanted more than any other Cub hitter this year. Add in he is one the best team in the NL and its obvious to anyone who will have an open mind that he deserves some MVP consideration. Right now he's not leading but he's top 5 and if he continues to hit like he is right now to the end of the season he could still win it.

This board has a very very large problem with the mob mentality. One person jumps on someone and the whole group follows suit. Cool your jets and stop being a bunch of pricks.

oh please

A person made a stupid argument based on random bits of trivia and he refused to defend it with any logic.

First of all, no. He really isn't in the top 5. He would have to have a HUGE month and a half to be under consideration for league MVP.

Second of all, the reason people jumped all over what he said was that it was a bad point and an even worse way of arguing it, not because of any mob mentality.

First of all, I'm not surprised that you are siding with the person who now holds the title for NSBB's dumbest argument.

Secondly, any merit to the base argument for Soriano as MVP was completely destroyed by the OP's pigheadedness and his insistence on following W/L stats without Soriano exclusively, while ignoring rational discussion using real stats that ACTUALLY determine MVP candidacy.

Fixed. Thanks for the post but it really doesn't matter. The fact they fail to see anything with regards to Sori and what his value is speaks to how clueless they really are.

I gave them the team record and personal stats and it still doesn't register with them.

No worries.

They are waiting for him to pull a hammy first, then the team will go 0-5 without him, then go on a 15 game winning streak with him. The statue will be erected on 9/20/08. Fan appreciation weekend will be renamed Soriano weekend.

So Pujols was out of the Cardinals lineup for awhile...should he get the nod over Soriano? By the way, the team record when Soriano was out also included a host of other injuries. Just so you know. I don't think anyone has mentioned that.

Nobody is saying Soriano isn't a very valuable member of this team. That doesn't change the fact that he's not even in the top 5 candidates for the league most valuable player award.

I don't know why I'm bothering making a real response.
