after all the I-L-L posts, it's kinda nice to see them get humbled. not ready to eat at the big boys' table, apparently.

 

i don't think anyone has been talking illinois up to be anything other than what they are. this I-L-L stuff is what we do, i have no idea how that constitutes being cocky or needing to be humbled. we got beaten by a better team, period. however, i still think the rest of the big ten is in trouble when it comes to playing the us.

 

Actually, SSR was quite cocky, and is the sole reason I enjoyed seeing Illinois lose. Typically, I don't care one way or another about Illinois, but seeing really obnoxious fans get humbled is fun.

Frankly, I think Mizzou would flatten every other team in the Big Ten with the exception of Ohio State.

 

That would be a fun game to watch.

 

yeah, I'm not prepared to talk trash about Illinois until after Penn State plays them. I'm not very confident right now, even with the game at home.

 

i'm not talking trash, but some illinois fans have gotten pretty cocky about their team. i think they forget that they were horrible 2 years ago. and frankly it seems like they have a lot of punks on their team too, getting up and hopping around after every first down or tackle for a loss.

 

Damn us for actually being happy that we have a respectable football team now.

 

And damn those players for celebrating when something good happens. Just makes me sick.

I know this was the final drive and they were passing every play, but it seems like Illinois is going to have to rely completely on Juice this year. Even when the game was close Illinois couldn't run the ball well.

 

EDIT: And I realize that Chase Daniel is pretty good, but it's not like Illinois was able to stop Missouri from running the ball either today. Fortunately for Illinois, the Big 11 isn't exactly stocked with potent offensive teams.

We were facing a rival team, whos ranked # 6 right now, how dare our fans be excited for the game. Not one person was on here guaranteeing a victory or nothing like that. The Big 10 and Illinois hate from some people here is beyond ridiculous, and the very reason why I wanted to start a seperate thread for the Illinois Mizzou game. This crap gets really old on this board regarding the Big 10 and Illinois, I really think we just need 1 thread dedicated to either the Big 10, or to the Illini, just so you dumbasses wouldnt have to read it.

Honestly its really hard to take away alot from this game since it is the 1st game of the year for both teams. I really wish they could move this game till after both teams had a chance to get acclimated. I think it would make the game even more fun.

I'm more than willing to accept opposing arguments based on my own limited knowledge, but neither Raisin nor wolf nor any other Pac-10 fans on this board are that. And although I'm sure there are plenty of bad ones, the USC fans I talked to when I was at the 2005 ND/USC game were all nothing less than pleasant.

Who, pray tell, are the "in-your-face" SEC fans here? Meph was, sure, but everyone else I have seen has been far above the "SEC mouthbreathers" comment about 8 or so pages back. Even Red Flash (a Bammer, no less) has been quite respectable.

 

For that matter, who are the in-your-face Pac 10 fans? I really can't say that I have ever seen one.

You weren't talking trash earlier you were making a purposeful post to get at Illinois fans. Everything was fine before you came in here trolling. Illinois has a good team this year I would expect their fans to be excited about it. FWI every team celebrates after first downs on the sidelines. The backups are there to fill in for the injured and get the starters pumped up.

 

I would hope an admin reviews this thread and see who instigated the stupidness of the last two pages because it seems to be getting out of hand on almost any thread of significance.

Good god...what an ugly game.

 

Chase looked like crap. Threw too many short balls in crowded areas, and his passes weren't sharp at all tonight.

 

Derrick Washington is going to be a great RB for us, the kid is exciting.

 

I'm pretty sure Maclin is fine, but even if he's a bit sore, rest him. He can sit the next 3 games for all I care, just don't rush him back.

 

Pretty impressed with the OL tonight, all things considered. There were times they didn't look great, but I was happy with it considering there was a LT and a C making their first collegiate starts. And as Sulley said, with how far our QB lines up, they just have to be adequate.

 

Our linebackers are awesome. I love them.

 

I think our cornerbacks were on drugs. At least I hope that was their problem. That was easily the worst performance I've seen out of a secondary group since I've been here. They better figure it out soon, because that was inexcusably bad.

 

On the Illinois side, Benn is a sick, sick, sick player. He's ridiculous. And Juice showed some signs of greatness out there after a somewhat shaky first quarter. And I had friends texting me after Mizzou went up 25 in the 3rd saying things like "game over!" but I was a bit hesitant on that, because like last year, I figured Illinois would fight back. Of course they did.

 

All in all, a fun game, but it completely wiped me out. I'm glad that it's over for another year.

As far as Illinois goes, I think every team on the schedule will still want/try to force Juice to throw the ball all game and contain the running game. Don't get me wrong he showed much improved touch last night and the numbers were huge, but good lord he had guys streaking WIDE open all night. They need to find a combination that can at least compare to Mendenhall.

 

Mizzou just needs to figure out what their problem was in the secondary. That offense is outstanding and if Maclin is healthy so are their ST.

The ACC is definitely the worst BCS conference. Wake will probably win it, this year. If Duke got 6 wins, that would be so ridiculous.

I agree. Mizzou dominated for basically the first three quarters. They kind of let up after they went up 45-20. That's something that we've seen with them in the past though, and hopefully something that Pinkel can quickly correct.

 

Fun game. Seeing Chase Coffman jump over people again was awesome. Maclin is still amazing, although Illinois did a pretty good job of quieting him on offense. Washington looks like he's going to be a solid player. Our run defense was sick. Take away that 40 yard run by Dufrene and the Tigers held them to around 1 yard per carry on 34 carries. Great all around game for the Tigers with a few areas to work on. Certainly not near as close as the score makes it appear.
