This is totally offtopic, but as I was looking on Google Maps to see where the hell Dixon, CA was, I zoomed out and noticed a town named Vacaville...anyway, that pointless story aside, didn't we used to have a pretty active poster here named vacca (or something like that)? What ever happened to him/her? Or maybe my brain totally made that up... Edited by David

We're not going to see them again for another year. There's no reason to risk playing with 24 players for 3-4 games just to get vengeance.

I would let it go. We're in a pennant race. Win this "battle" by scoring more runs and sweeping the season series, not by plunking some Brave in the ribs.

Exactly. Hopefully Lou takes Soriano aside, explains to him that the team is behind him but we aren't going to risk damaging suspensions by throwing at one of their guys.

If my math is correct; I think if we win tonight, we could lose every game for the rest of the season and still make the playoffs in theory. I know it doesn't mean anything, but it's kind of cool to be able to say that with 41 games left.

I'm confused, what did you use to figure that out?

If the Cubs win this game, our record will be a palindrome.

And if the Padres win, their record will also be a palindrome.

I think the same can be said for the Phillies and Mets, but I'm too lazy to look again to make sure.

Huh?

Are you saying that because the Cards don't have enough head to head games to pass us up by winning all of them or something?

He's saying that it's mathematically possible for a team to get 74 wins and make the playoffs

But not 73?

I'm confused.

But not 73?

I'm confused.

This year, at this rate, were the Cubs to finish with 73 wins and lose the rest of their games, there are not enough losses to spread around the remainder of the division teams to keep the Cubs in playoff position. At 74 wins, though, there is a way.

Ah. Seems like a weird thing to figure out...

Padres held up their end of the bargain...

Time to take care of business. Let's hope the idiot umpires can give Lilly the benefit of the doubt this time and keep their trigger fingers quiet.

I care more about them calling a curveball strike a curveball strike.

In fact almost all the success a lefty pitcher has who is not named Randy Johnson is if the ump actually calls his curveball a strike anywhere. (They rarely do)

Scott Kazmir and Fracisco Liriano do alright as well.
