Anyone but AZ or Florida. Haren and Webb are money (although we beat Haren at Wrigley earlier this year) and we can't beat the Marlins no matter what we do, it seems.

And AZ would throw Johnson at us in the deciding game and we'd be screwed in that case.

I think the Cubs could and would beat a Webb-Haren-Johnson-Rain playoff rotation.....
No, Steve Rain has NOT signed with the Dbacks. :D

The main thing is to win more games then anyone else in the National League. That way no matter what we can have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. For the Cubs that is key. The teams feels good at home, and plays and scores their best at Wrigley.

Dodgers in the first round would be great. The team is not as good as Arizona (at least not the rotation) and I'd be able to get tix for game 3.

The Cardinals as the WC would certainly be preferable to the Brewers.

That duo would definitely be a dream duo. Would you be at all worried about the Cards in a rivalry-type series in the playoffs?

Any chance they play better against us simply because it's Cubs/Cards? Or do you not buy that stuff in baseball games?

Anything can happen in a best-of-7 series. If they play any better, it'd be because they're 4 wins away from the World Series.

I say dodgers and cards because I'm scared of dbacks rotation and cards are worse than brewers. I wan phillies to win and go to nlcs only because then I could go to a game. :D

I like any scenario where Arizona misses the playoffs. That's the one team I really don't want to see. I especially don't want to play them in the first round, so Go Dodgers.

Its pretty crazy that basically every team that would be a rivalry/revenge team has a good shot at the playoffs. Dbacks, Cards, Brewers, Mets, Marlins, White Sox.

I would definitely like the Cardinals to be the WC team. I think I would prefer the Dodgers to win the west. Manny makes their lineup a lot more intimidating, but outside of Billingsley their rotation isn't very impressive. They're all decent (except Penny) but unspectacular. And I think the Mets are the team in the east that I would most like to face.

I think a playoff series against the Cards or Mets would be pretty awesome.

Anybody but the Brewers. We're better than anyone else in the league, but Milwaukee is clearly the second best team for my money. I would be thrilled (and shocked) if they don't make the playoffs.

Brewers are definitely the next best team in the NL.

QFT

Webb, Haren, and Johnson could lead to a second straight quick exit from the playoffs.

Chris De Luca wrote in the sun times today that the Dodgers are the team we should be afraid of the most. This pretty much goes against what everyone here believes.

They do have the best pitching in the league though, don't they? Their lineup sucks, but Manny does improve them offensively, and he's by far better than anybody AZ has.

They have the best ERA in the league because of Dodger stadium. Billingsley is the only starter without a heavy home/road split, and they lost Saito for the year recently too.

122 team ERA+, right?

Speaking of the Dodgers (as I was perusing their stats), I would love to know how Joe Beimel is pulling off a 1.87 ERA with a 1.54 WHIP.

To get full justice going through Arizona and then Florida would help getting over the past couple of playoffs the Cubs were in.

Assuming we are still ahead in the division later in the year, will we see any sort of celebration when we clinch the wild card? Will we wait till we clinch the division (which may or may not ultimately happen)? Will it be odd to celebrate at that point because a playoff spot was already locked up or whatever?

What if they clinch the wild card, don't celebrate, and then wind up not winning the division?

Just thinking aloud. Me and my buddy were sort of wondering aloud about it last night at the bar. How have teams handled that in the past?
