I can only assume the Cubs know something that we don't...or at least I hope they do since he really only had, what, 3 bad outings this year?

Eyre didnt deserve to be DFAd, but the fact is Lou trusts Cotts and Marshall more, and so do I. Dont feel too sorry for Eyre. He'll be on a new team in no time. Both the Yankees and Red Sox were showing interest at the deadline, so he'll more than likely end up with one of them. The Brewers could be a possible destination as well.

I don't feel bad for him at all. He had no problems accepting his player option and since he accepted he hasn't done squat for us.

And 2 of them were when he was hurt.

I have to say I'm pretty surprised by this. He never really had a chance to pitch this season. He was great after the break last season, and has shown success in the past. I'm surprised they let him go.

Eyre has been hurt all season and he's sucked since coming back from his recent injury. I'm glad he's gone.

He's sucked since coming back? He pitched once in, what, two weeks? You would expect anyone to suck after not pitching for that long.

How did he look in the minor leagues when rehabbing? If the Cubs felt he was still good they would have kept him.

If Eyre wanted to, could he accept the assignment and go to Iowa until September 1st?

Or would the MLBPA prevent him from doing that?

Eyre took the news pretty hard.

Yeah, I feel sorry for the guy. He toiled with this team for a couple of years and now he's being sent out when they have their best chance to make some noise.

I think you have to use the DFA method and expose him to waivers in order to get him to the minors.

Eyre will be traded, probably for a PTBNL in the next 10 days. If not, somebody will claim him in the waiver process.

Yeah, it was weird that they activated him after his bad appearances in the minors. I'm thinking that there is more to the story.

Zero chance anyone claims Scott Eyre off waivers.

To be fair, teams usually do not give much credence to the numbers veterans put up in rehab assignments. The poor MiL outings shouldn't be used as an example of anything.

I really feel bad for the guy. Scott had his ups and downs but I think he made a decent contribution to the team the 2+ years he was with us, and he was a likable guy, I hope he does well wherever he goes next. Although, would it be possible for him to come back in September?

Scott got screwed around this year after being lights out last year in the 2nd half, but like he said Lou never seemed to get over it. Seems odd Lou can get over Howry sucking and continue pitching him, but not Eyre.

Lou really, really pisses me off sometimes. :banghead:

Why? A left-handed pitcher with 2 months left on his deal, and has possibilities of helping a ballclub. There are several bullpen starved teams who would make a claim. There's very little risk in that move for them.

Usually it's the lefties who get a pass because they happen to throw with their left hand. Apparently Eyre wasn't so lucky.

And yeah, if somebody was going to be DFA'd, it should have been Howry.

Yeah, wouldn't they have to take his entire contract as well?
