I missed it, is Samardzija really warming up in the pen? Please tell me Eyre is going to pitch the 9th.

Unless someone can prove otherwise, I'm under the assumption that Scott Eyre no longer exists.

please tell me that someone not named carlos marmol is throwing in the cub bullpen

Shark was up at the end of last inning

He shouldn't pitch, there is no reason why Eyre can't finish this out but whatever.

or marshall or someone who doesn't pitch much. if you're not gonna use back of the bullpen guys with a 6 run lead then what's the point of even having them on the team?

Agreed. Not only does it unnecessarily strain the pen, but it makes it harder for Eyre to get any consistency going when he isn't it the game. I bet Lou just forgot about him.

I am sure this has been discussed, but the % of Cub fans at Miller Park is above 10-20 right?

Right now? Closer to 75%, I would think.

This has been a very "easy" 118 pitches. He hasn't had a high stress inning and if we can have freash arms in the pen the last 2 games, let him finish the damn thing.

I don't want him to finish it, but I know Z will insist that he gets to. That's why I love Z.

That being said, I wish NSBB, would realize not ALL pitchers have the same requirements for pitch counts.

As Kasper just cited, Sheehan indicated that older pitchers can tolerate higher counts. Plus as I repeat AD NAUSEUM, it's higher stress innings, that REALLY influence Pitcher Abuse.

And since it's a 1-0 game, it makes sense to risk his arm with the extra pitches and pitchers on the bench who haven't pitched in a few days

All I'm saying is that Z is a huge competitor, a horse, and he's older and not prone to the real damage that happens with young pitchers ala Prior and Wood (in high school).

He's been coasting, he's out now. It's fine. Lou is being careful with Harden for good reason, Z is fine.

I think fans put WAY too much emphasis on pitch counts without taking other factors into count (age, high stress innings)

Len and Bob basically saying what I'm saying about pitch counts. Thanks, guys.

Dude, those guys work for the Cubs.

Sheehan doesn't. Z is not a 18 year old pitcher, he's a horse. Don't worry, Lou will take him out but this pitch count crap is getting ridiculous. It's not like he has thrown 160 pitches.

The Cubs have nothing to gain from him pitching the 9th and everything to lose. It's a completely unneccessary risk. I also think the recent shoulder strain HAS to at least be considered. I just don't see the reason to risk it. If Z goes down, forget it.

No, I just probably know a lot more about Baseball then you. But carry on with those weak jokes.

I'm sure this has been talked about in the thread, but why the f is shark warming up? Perfect spot to finally use Eyre here.

just because you played the game and were in the on deck circle when hank aaron hit #715 doesn't mean you're more qualified to talk baseball than me, pal.

It's basically the only thing being discussed.

Has Eyre been on the verge of being traded for a week straight?

You're not getting it.

118 pitches in a 1-0 game is one thing. But the Cubs were up 6-0 going into the eighth inning which is why it was unnecessary to throw him out there for the eighth. Had it been 1-0, that would have been okay considering Z was pitching well. But it wasn't a close game which is why it wasn't smart to throw Z out there.

While I agree that pitch counts are overrated, you should really leave the "I know more than you do about baseball" junk out of it. It makes you sound extraordinarily immature, and Truffle is a well-respected, knowledgeable poster.

Just stating the facts, pal. Carry on, though.
