Everything that has happened up until this point doesn't matter, it's only gotten us to where we are: deadlocked with the Brewers and 3 games up on the Cardinals. We have 57 games to prove that we're better than the rest of the teams in the NL (which I really believe we are). We need to play each game like it's our last, and do whatever it takes to get the W. Get the job done, and the Cubs make history...It starts today!

It's a 2 month season now. IMO, the Cubs are the best of the bunch in the NLC. In looking at when the Cubs started to play mediocre Baseball, look no further then the Rays series. And it's also interesting to note that that's when Carlos Marmol started to lose it. Ever since Marmol has struggled, so has the team. after that series, the Cubs have gone a very pedestrian 15-16.

The Cubs have played medicore Baseball for a solid month now and Marmol has been bad most of that time.

On the offensive side of things, Fukudome, Lee, Ramirez, Soto and DeRosa have been weak. As far as Alfonso Soriano goes, he is who he is: A streaky player who makes us all cringe but then when he gets on a 3 week tear, he amazes us.

I hope this lineup I post gets to Lou, as I think it's the best one for the rest of the season.

Fukudome

Theriot

Ramirez

Soriano

Lee

Edmonds/Johnson

Soto

DeRosa

Enough is enough with the whole: "Soriano needs to leadoff" crap. He needs to be in a position to see more fastballs. If he has runners on base, he's likely to see more fastballs as pitchers are not going to walk him with runners on.

As far as Lee goes, IMO, he's not a superstar but most people view him as one because of the 2 great seasons he had.. D-Lee is a solid player but not even close to a superstar. If our expectations of Lee are something along the lines of: .290/24/90-95 RBI, then we won't be upset with his production.

I am far more concerned with how awful Fukodome has looked. To be getting paid what he is for what he has produced has been a waste of huge dollars.

He is a leadoff or two hitter but is getting paid to be a major producer. It was just too big of a contract for what he brings to the table.

I'm not too concerned about A-Ram, as I know he'll be right where he always is when all is said and done. Geo has hit a rookie wall, which is not too much of a surprise.

DeRo, overall, is having a nice season but he, like much of the team, is in a horrendous slump.

In the end, however, the deepest team usually wins and that's the Cubs.

I'd rather have us have to battle for it... the teams who get to coast to the end generally don't do well in the playoffs.

Yeah, they never do well, except for when they do.

1-0 in the REAL season. Undefeated Woot!
And the Brewers and Cardinals are both 0-1.

The title of this thread reminds me of a year in the 1970s (I don't remember the specific year) when the Sox were owned by Bill Veeck. They were having a horrible year, so in true Bill Veeck fashion they actually held a second Opening Day. They said they were looking at the rest of the season as a fresh start, and they actually went through the usual Opening Day festivities again. I don't remember reading anything about how the other team liked that idea.

I'm liking my self-declared new season...great comeback win for the Cubs and both the Brewers and the Cards fell....I have a feeling that the Cubs are going to shock people this week (in a good way) and take 3 of 4 in Milwaukee.

Soriano has also been out for that span. That's a huge bat to lose.

On the bright side, we have a 4 game series in Milwaukee and Marquis is not pitching.

Today's horrible start notwithstanding, him and Lilly are pretty much a wash.

I don't trust Lilly against the mashing Brewers, how many homers is Braun going to hit? 3?
