Move Fukudome to CF and get Matt Holliday for RF. Problems solved.

That'd be awesome, but I'm not sure we have what it takes to get Holliday.

If Hill had it together, he and Pie would probably make a good basis for a deal for him - without good Hill, though, I'm not sure we have enough.

IMO I think it's time Fukudome learned or accepted to play in CF unless the Cubs can get RF production out of another CF. If Edmonds/Johnson can put up solid numbers, I'm ok with Kos being in right. I wonder if Koske is looking at some video and getting an idea of how he has to make a little adjustment and/or pitchers are attacking him a little different and making that adjustment to that. I wonder if something is bothering him physically?

With him struggling mightily at the plate, is it a good idea to also ask him to move to a position he's not real comfortable at?

I'm all for him moving to center (if Pie isn't going to play there), but I'd prefer to give him the offseason to adjust to it instead of forcing it on him during a terrible slump.

Fukudome looks at video of the apposing pitcher everyday. There are some difference he is having to adjust to though. First off, they throw a lot more off speed stuff here in the US, then in Japan. Also, the strike zone here in Japan is set, not up to the opinion of each umpire. Here some umpire will call high strikes, others don't. Some call the corners, and others don't. You get my drift. For a new player that is hard to take in, it takes time.

But taking all that into consideration, if you look at his stats in Japan over the years. Fukudome has always had a lot of walks and SO's. More walks, of course....but still the strike out is always going to be there with players who work the count as he does.

He has a lot of work to do for sure, so we'll have to see if he's up to the task in the second half.

I'm confident he'll adjust. He normally has a very good approach at the plate which will lead to success once he quits pressing and gets back to it.

I think dropping him in the lineup could work wonders as it'll likely help him take some pressure off himself and work on getting his approach back.

Is this like when Adrian Beltre was "adjusting" to the AL after leaving the NL?
No, it isn't. Not a valid comparison; totally different situation. The NL and AL are both in the major leagues. The Japanese Central League isn't. This is Kosuke's first major league season.

It's great that we have the hard hitting commentary of badnews to keep nsbb in line.

I can't imagine anyone who isn't a bit concerned by Kosuke's slump but at the same time, to sit there and act like he can't break out of it is fairly silly. Badnews sits there and says on what basis do people say Fukudome will even it out.......well on what basis do you say he can't even it out? You pretty much act like he won't do so. And you have no better evidence for your claim than the other side so what is your point?

Logic and reason has no place in this discussion.

Very good game for him today. Hopefully this is the start of a turnaround.

Actually, I thought his last 3 days were better, even though you didn't always see them as runs scored. He hit 3 fly balls on Friday, a single yesterday, and another 2 hits today. Looks to me like things may be looking up for him. :good:

What's this in response to?

The question in the thread title is my guess.

Ahhhhhh, after reading through the thread I actually forgot all about the title. I would agree extended time off is not necessary. But some time off would be a good idea.
