In other games news, the Cards are sending Piniero up against Snell at 12:35 and the Reds are playing Homer Bailey against some guy named CC Sabathia at 7:05. How great would it be if the Reds offense lit him up?

Good luck with that. Sabathia vs. CIN:

6/27/08- 8 IP, 4 hits, 0 ER, 2 BB, 11 K

6/10/07- 9 IP, 3 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

The Reds did have a little success against him before that, but still CC has a low 3's ERA vs. them over that time.

I'm hoping the Giants offense will be the Giants offense today. Because it needs to be.

The Giants offense was the Giants offense yesterday, it was poor pitching and fielding by Marmol and Theriot that made it look better than it was for about 10 minutes.

I agree, i'm just saying that it needs to continue. I guess I worded that wierdly.

Let's hope that DL stint brings back the 2007 Ian Snell.

Keep 'em close until the Gnats go to the bullpen. That's all I ask.

That's what I've been hoping for. Worked with Cain.

The SCORE said no Fukudome today...

I think they said this was the line-up

Theriot SS

Fonte 2B

Lee

ARAM

Soto

Edmonds

DERO

Johnson

Dempster.

I am 90% sure that was the rest of the order.

By the way--Bruce if you are around I enjoyed your comments on Hit and Run this morning--good work as always!!

That's sort of an ugly lineup, but who knows. Even if we lose and the two hangers-on win today, Cubs go into the break no worse than 4.5 up on the 2nd place team.

This game will not end well. Blanco and Johnson against Lincecum? uggh

Yeah, we're trotting out a fairly punchless (for the Cubs) lineup against possibly the best pitcher in the National League (no its not an intra-squad game :-" )

Surprise me, Cubs.

Please tell me Reed is in Center as opposed to Edmonds

EDIT: Eurgh why does Lou insist on playing the defensively challenged Edmonds over Reed in Center?

1:05 start for Brew.

Ouch. Well, we need rest for Jimmy Ed and Soto. I suppose it's a necessary thing.

Definitely hurts our chances to win though.

Probably because Edmonds hasn't really played either corner outfield for a few years, and with the Cubs situation there really isn't much need for him to get out there and practice playing in the corner when he would only do it for 4-5 games all season. Johnson is much more used to it. It's not a transition that is easily made on the fly if you haven't done it in a while.

The good thing is that the Cubs got 3 runs against Lincecum with almost no contribution from Fukudome and Soto last time out (1-6, infield hit, 4 K's) so hopefully they can do that again.

If we're gonna beat Lincecum in this particular game, we're gonna beat him. The actual difference between having Soto in there or not is pretty marginal.

A big fat LOL to Marmol replacing Wood as an All-Star. That's one of the most absurd things ever.

Why is this happening? Marmol's June shoulda taken him outta consideration for the ASG.

Oh well, if the either team is within 7 runs after the 7th, we can expect him to throw like 40 pitches.
