Steve Phillips: "The Cubs wouldn't trade their bullpen for another one in the majors"

not true.

Ive always been surprised why so many people praise our bullpen. We've had to put up with a lot of crap from our BP in some games.

So has every other team that's been assembled for every year in the history of baseball.

Yes, but I'm angry at my team, and therefore I can say whatever I want.

irony - Lou used Marmol to get so many garbage outs that he's not even good enough to get garbage outs anymore

Yeah what happened Marmol, you used to own 5+ run lead situations. That was your role!

Ryan Theriot is not a shortstop.

I don't care how much he hits, he's HORRIBLE defensively, and has cost us alot of runs this year.

untrue.

Yes it is. He has horrible range, a horrible arm, and has made numerous poor decisions in the field.

he's a little below average. i guess if you want to ignore all the fielding metrics and say that he's horrible at everything, that's your prerogative.

Yes, because we all know how reliable and accurate fielding metrics are.

generally they're more reliable and accurate than someone losing his mind after a poor play.

Okay so he exaggerated when he called him "horrible", but he's right that Theriot is not good defensively. He's below average for starting shortstops.

Fine, but this whole thing was precipitated by a false supposition. This game is not Theriot's fault, it's Lou's.
