Just got back in...I take it Woody isn't available today and that's why Marmol was the only option the whole top of the 9th?

That is correct. Marshall was ready in the bullpen halfway through the inning, but Lou didn't go to him. Marmol didn't get hit particularly hard most of the inning, but a combination of poor control and balls finding holes did him in.

That's what is the most frustrating thing. Marmol doesn't seem to have lost and movement or velocity, and it's not like guys were smoking the ball against him like they were a couple weeks ago.

I guess....Marshall was warmed up for the last half of the inning but Lou didn't make the switch. It was really bizarre. I would say Lou had a deer in headlights look, but he came to the mound twice that inning ...the second time with the trainer to see if he was ok to continue. Really really bizarre.

It's really, really bizarre how bad Marmol has been. It's not the same pitcher.

Wow! What a hook by Marshal!

Not all that bizarre IMO. Tired arm, can't get the break he used to get, can't control what he used to control.

First strikeout since Harden left.

Go CUBS !!

sorry to be nitpicky but its always nice to see if you can stump the Fred but Marshall struck 1 out in the 10th.

All he had to do was put Marshall in the 9th and it's over.

Yeap. I'm past the shock and anger stages now, heading into depression.

i'd let marshall hit... he can go for a while and i sure trust him more than lieber.

Same here. Just take pitches and hopefully you'll get a walk.

Exactly what I was thinking if you bring someone in for marshall and the Cubs don't score, my thoughts on our chances of winning goes down by a lot with Lieber in there.

I just got back and was very very surprised the game was still going. I then read the play-by-play of the ninth and totally lost my appetite.

Was Wood unavailable??

And, apparently, Theriot's defensive deficiencies.

Yeah. Theriot made a good play to get to the ball in the hole, and then tried to be a hero and throw the ball to 2nd from his back to get the final out of the game and threw it into right field.
