The Brewers will catch us by the All Star break. If not sooner.

Why? Because the Cubs have hit a rough patch?

Cause we are on the road. And we are beat up. And they are playing well.

We went 1-2 to the Orioles at HOME

i'm still in awe of how that half swing resulted in an oppo home run...

We have to lead the league in the last couple of years in giving up crushing "weak" home runs. (the Russel Branyon swing in the Zambrano near no hitter last year comes to mind)

Looked like Aramis just got a little over-anxious in that situation, swinging at two pitches a few inches inside. I think Grace was right, I believe they were attempting to pitch around him. Hard to complain too much about it though the way he has been playing.

Get the guys healthy and everything should be fine. Losing to the White Sox is no different than anybody else, this series just gets more hype.

It is imperative to pick up a few more wins on the road though because I don't think its possible for the Cubs to keep up their pace at home.

The fact is we really need to get the band back together, and bullpen help might be becoming as much of a need as a starter.

Why? It's the starting pitching that has been brutal since Z went down. Today was an example of the bullpen doing fine. The HR Marmol was a fluke shot.

so, do we have much of a chance in 2009?

maybe if hendry sells off the vets and grabs some good prospects for them, we might be a contender in the early two thousand teens.

could andy pettitte's move be any more of a balk? maybe if he had the ball on a string and threw it toward the plate, had it come back to him, and then threw over to the base?

CUBS are 45-26 when they draw at least 2 walks.... 4-4 when they don't

CUBS have drawn at least 2 BBs in 39 of their last 44 games

Go CUBS !!

I severely doubt the 2006 Cubs even had 71 games where they drew 2 or more walks

105 times in '06, actually.

They've lost 2 in a row and are also playing on the road.

Well I obviously hope you are right, but I have a bad feeling about us coming up.

So? The Orioles play in the AL East and are above .500. Control yourself and stop freaking out like a child.

2 in a row to the hottest team in baseball

well, that sucked.

but easy does it with this talk of the brewers catching the cubs by the ASB. come on.

While I do think the Cubs will make the playoffs, I'll be less than shocked if they fall out of first at one point, possibly before the break.

is that even mathematically possible?

wow so they had 57 games - or more than a third of their games - where they took zero walks or one walk??? that is truly horrendous. this year's team is on pace to do it 16 or 17 times.

A) The first loss was to the Braves

B) The White Sox have a better record than the Twins

If we look back on the past week, certain things can be said.

1. The offense, despite crapping out in the 9th today, has been fine. Lee looks like he is getting hot and starting to hit more line drives. ARam will come through again.

2. Marquis needs to go. When he doesn't give up a lot of runs, its by luck, not skill.

3. Dempster had a bad outing. It happens.

4. Gallagher has been doing well up to today, and today was after 9 days off, which was stupid. I don't know who some of you want to replace him, but I'm fine with him. In his last outing before today he held one of the best teams in the league to 1 run over six innings. While he needs to get his innings up, he did give us 7 today, and besides, hes what? 23. For being 23, he is doing very well, and could be an important trade asset or starter. He is not the issue.

5. Marmol got unlucky today. Quentin basically threw the bat at the ball and managed to get it up into the wind. No wind an it probably doesn't make the warning track.

6. Z will be back, so will Soriano, and Johnson. Right now besides those three, Edmonds and Fukudome are hurting. We are relying on people like Fontenot, Cedeno, and Patterson, who despite his hot first two games here, really has not hit at this level, to come through for us.

The Cubs need another starter, but he would not have helped the last two games.

btw the cubs have a beat up pitching staff and the white sox have the best june OPS by about 50 points. this shouldn't be shocking to anyone; the white sox do have a good offense and a lot of decent hitters (cabrera, ramirez, crede) who are unusually hot right now.

baltimore has the #5 OPS in june, by the way.

The Twins have won 10 in a row something the White Sox or Cubs can't say they've done.

the cubs also had 10 LOB and had some very good scoring opportunities - the first inning they left a couple on base, bases loaded and crede made a great play on soto's liner, and the 9th inning with lee on 3rd base for ARam and edmonds. basically the game could've gone either way, and the white sox had things go their way.
