From Buster Olney's chat today.

Link.

Kevin (Manassas): With Edmonds playing much better lately, will the Cubs stick with him and Johnson in CF, and look to acquire another SP, or will they still look to acquire a left handed bat also?

SportsNation Buster Olney: Kevin: the feeling of rival executives is that the Cubs will be aggressive in trying to improve their team as much as they can, with what they have (and the Cubs don't have a deep farm system). If they can get a better pitcher, they'll do it; if they can get a better outfielder for the right price, they'll do it. Most teams will lay back and essentially keep the status quo, with some tinkering, but the Cubs are sending signals that they're ready to upgrade

This isn't the first place I've seen comments like this. With this kind of attitude, the trade deadline could be a fun and interesting time for us. Also, it's probably wise for us not to get too attached to our minor leaguers. A lot of those guys could be moving on.

Should be a good time in the Transactions forum this summer. :D

I don't think that will be a problem.

Yeah that's not too hard.

hopefully a certain former ND wideout is traded so I don't have to root for him to succeed

He has a no-trade clause. He's not going anywhere.

Okay, I'm over it now.

Got a problem with ND?

read the 2008-09 basketball season thread and you'll find your answer or the Big Ten Network thread

Yes...Jim Hendry won't stop drafting crappy players from Notre Dame..it is really frustrating.

If we could live with parting ways with Les Walrond, we can make it through anything.

Amen. Finest pitcher in Guthrie, Okla. history.

Joking aside, what minor league players have any damn value for trading? They might be aggressive, but the quality of player they will get will probably not be up to our expectations if that is the pool we are trading from...

Oh no how will I go throughout life without Colvin and Patterson and Veal and company?

I'll certainly miss Colvin swinging at everything. The thought of him gone brings me to tears.

Actually, that Tyler Colvin has disappeared. The new Tyler Colvin has good patience, but has lost the ability to hit. We're looking for the first one to see if we can somehow merge the old one and the new one together.

Does Colvin, Patterson, Veal get Beltre from Seattle? I'm not sure it does. It would probably be enough to get Miguel Batista, though.

why would anyone want Beltre? if Colvin, Patterson, and Veal are packaged, it better be for somebody a helluva lot better than Adrian Beltre

I think he's making the point that its probably the best we can do for those guys.

Sean Marshall, Kevin Hart, Jose Ceda, Donnie Veal and Welington Castillo probably have the highest value (depending on the team, Tyler Colvin too). Nothing that should net CC or Harden, though.

Not till 8/15, but yes, he'd be the best trade bait the Cubs have.
