What are the odds Lou lets Z hit?

I would do it just to spite Whinebrenner.

Would that be history too? Has a pitcher ever hit at an AL stadium since the implementation of the DH in 1972?

From the rulebook...

The Rule provides as follows: A hitter may be designated to bat for the starting pitcher and all subsequent pitchers in any game without otherwise affecting the status of the pitcher(s) in the game. A Designated Hitter for the pitcher must be selected prior to the game and must be included in the lineup cards presented to the Umpire in Chief. The designated hitter named in the starting lineup must come to bat at least one time, unless the opposing club changes pitchers. It is not mandatory that a club designate a hitter for the pitcher, but failure to do so prior to the game precludes the use of a Designated Hitter for that game. Pinch hitters for a Designated Hitter may be used. Any substitute hitter for a Designated Hitter becomes the Designated Hitter. A replaced Designated Hitter shall not re enter the game in any capacity. The Designated Hitter may be used defensively, continuing to bat in the same position in the batting order, but the pitcher must then bat in the place of the substituted defensive player, unless more than one substitution is made, and the manager then must designate their spots in the batting order. A runner may be substituted for the Designated Hitter and the runner assumes the role of Designated Hitter. A Designated Hitter may not pinch run. A Designated Hitter is "locked" into the batting order. No multiple substitutions may be made that will alter the batting rotation of the Designated Hitter. Once the game pitcher is switched from the mound to a defensive position this move shall terminate the Designated Hitter role for the remainder of the game. Once a pinch hitter bats for any player in the batting order and then enters the game to pitch, this move shall terminate the Designated Hitter role for the remainder of the game. Once the game pitcher bats for the Designated Hitter this move shall terminate the Designated Hitter role for the remainder of the game. (The game pitcher may only pinch hit for the Designated Hitter). Once a Designated Hitter assumes a defensive position this move shall terminate the Designated Hitter role for the remainder of the game. A substitute for the Designated Hitter need not be announced until it is the Designated Hitter's turn to bat

Yes .. I believe the Yankees did it for some odd reason. I think Jeter was the DH and he later went to play the field, and the pitcher had an AB.

EDIT: n/m, I guess the pitcher never did get an AB: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BOS/BOS200608210.shtml

There looked to be twice the Cub fans in attendance. There can't be more than 30,000 actual Rays fans in existence, how did you become friends with one?

About 27,500 of which hopped on the bandwagon this year.

Looks good to me. Too bad they cant keep DeRosa at 2B and Johnson in left and have Hoff DH for Johnson and let Z hit.

Why yes. Yes it is.

Chicago's beer is brewed in Milwaukee. How ironic. ;)

Few of our players are homegrown, so it only goes to figure.

And I was joking about the trying to fit in here comment.

Sweet. I like Fukudome leading off and I predict a big night for Ronny.

I like that a lot. I was concerned that Johnson would be getting a lot of starts vs. righties after the stuff came out about Lou saying he had found his leadoff man. Hopefully, he keeps it along these lines.

Never at .500!

Seriously, they have never had a season above .435 (2004) and have had several below .400. This is their tenth year and the first one even where they are even competing.

What a pathetic franchise.

From Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designated_hitter#The_rule_in_practice

On May 19, 2008, the Minnesota Twins surrendered their DH position in a game vs. the Texas Rangers in Minneapolis. Twins Manager Ron Gardenhire had to use rookie pitcher Bobby Korecky as a hitter in the 11th inning of the game, who had only pitched in five games prior and had never had a major league at-bat. However, Korecky hit the first pitch he saw into right field for a single, becoming the first Twins pitcher to get a hit in an American League game since 1973. The inning ended with Korecky stranded at 3rd base with the bases loaded. Korecky ended up getting his first major league win in this game as the Twins won 7-6 in 12 innings.

There are some more instances of the pitcher hitting, but this is just one example from this year.

I think he probably meant has a team ever decided to not use the DH and just let the pitcher hit from the start of the game.

As for using a pitcher to hit period, the Cubs would have had a somewhat small chance of having to do it last night if Johnson's bunt had been successful. They would have had the pitcher's spot be 8th in extra innings, and had only 1 bench player left before they would have had to use Zambrano and Marquis to pinch-hit.
