Looks like Calipari is taking the Kentucky job. He met with his players this morning and informed them. I feel like i've just been dumped.

Did DeMarcus Cousins sign a letter?

Looks like just a verbal.

Yep, just a verbal. And you know Xavier Henry will ask out of his letter.

He's a part of the Facebook group campaigning for Calipari to take the UK job.

Not for Mike Davis to take it?

If Cal's recruits follow him to UK, why would Anderson(or anyone in a power conference) want the Memphis job? The current roster would be barren and it would be a step down in the level of competition.

As it pertains to Anderson, they've been waiting until the season was done to hammer out the exact details of an extension and raise(1.3 million was the number I heard). The one and only reason for Anderson to go to Memphis would be dollar signs, and considering his character I really doubt that he'd choose that over all the other advantages he'd have staying at Mizzou(or even going to another power conference school).

Will Kentucky let Calipari get away with what he can get away with at Memphis?

Because as Calipari has shown, Memphis has a golden ticket to the tournament every year. Throw in the extra million that Memphis can offer on top of the free ride to the tournament and it's a decent sell.

Homerism aside, I suspect Anthony Grant (for those who don't know, Anthony Grant was hired by Alabama) will be meeting with Cousins very soon. As of right now CAG is meeting with Eric Bledsoe today. I am NOT saying Alabama will keep these two in state talents, in state, but with the reputation of CAG from his Florida days it wouldn't surprise me.

That seems like quite a stretch. Anyone who's any good should be able to make the tournament consistently regardless of conference. If anything, Memphis' awful conference decreases their chance of an at large, meaning they're an unlucky conference tourney from the NIT in many years.

Have you heard anything on Georgia trying for Mike Anderson? I have no idea if they'd have a realistic shot at beating out Mizzou's extension offer, but I keep hearing rumors that he's UGAs frontrunner.

I've heard Georgia mentioned, and I've heard they might try and blow him away with an offer of upwards of $2M, which I'm not sure Missouri can match right now (though they could backload it).

In all honesty though, and I hate to be overly confident, but I really can't see Anderson leaving. Like I've said before, Missouri isn't a mid-major springboard to a bigger program. There's a lot of history at Missouri and he's well on his way to restoring it. He's got the fan base back, Mizzou Arena is a great place to play, the facilities here are top-of-the-line and he's got nine returners next year with two solid prospects coming in so far. I just can't help but feel he wants to stay here and see this through.

I've heard UGA would have interest, but I'm not sure why Anderson would want to go there. He's about to be paid well, and Mizzou has a better current team, better future prospects, better facilities, better basketball tradition, better fan support, better basketball conference, and the only tie Anderson has to Georgia is "he used to be an assistant in the same conference". Doesn't make sense to me.

Quite a stretch? They've gone to the tournament as a #1 or #2 seed four straight years. I don't see an unlucky conference tournament putting them in jeopardy of an NCAA bid.

Yeah, I've wondered exactly what you two have - unless UGA could toss out $2M+ and Mizzou couldn't match it, why would he leave Missouri? You're both right that Missouri has far more basketball prestige than Georgia and it wouldn't really make sense for Anderson to leave, but the rumors kept persisting, so I figured I'd ask.

Thanks for the replies.

In the situation I presented, they lose their coach, their incoming recruiting class, and their 3 best and most important players. Do you think Memphis is a surefire tourney team with Kemp/Sallie/Mack/Witherspoon/Niles/Taggert as primary players with a lesser coach leading them?

No, not next year. But big picture is you bring in somebody that can recruit and yes, Memphis is a surefire tourney team year in and year out. It's not that hard of a sell because it's been proven over the last four years. I think 2 mil/per plus an automatic entrance to the dance is enough to get Mike Anderson's attention. And who knows, maybe the players coming in consider staying for a coach like Anderson.

I've heard Georgia will throw all that money at Jeff Capel. Then again, I'm not sure Georgia would pay any basketball coach that kind of money, considering they're paying Mark Richt like $2.5M/year.

According to TigerBoard, a radio station in STL said that Memphis told Anderson not to sign with Mizzou until they had a chance to talk with them. I take most things on TigerBoard with a grain of salt, so take it for what it's worth.
