Sure the atmosphere around the arena might not be great, but the atmosphere around the city is much better. Wouldn't you rather take the weekend trip to Chicago rather than Indianapolis?

How is the atmosphere around the city much better?

Like I said for a general weekend of course I would rather go to Chicago than Indy. But when I go to the Big Ten Tournament I'm not doing anything besides going to the games, going to restaurants/bars and then to the hotel. Other attractions are meaningless for most who make the trip.

Aaaannddddd DePaul gets blown out by St. John's at home in their last "winnable" game of the season. 0-18 is almost a certainty. Awesome. We're the Detroit Lions of major college basketball.

this game is a joke. NW hits like 7 contested 3s in a row and ours rim out.

That was ridiculous. Another close loss where we were in position to win it late and can't finish. It didn't help that Cole and Tate got everything blocked and were 2-11 when all of their shots were within 4 feet.

Jake Kelly's last 5 games:

20.4 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, 4 assists, 52% from the field, 41% from 3. 39.8 minutes per game. He's been the best player in the league the last 3 weeks.

but DePaul doesn't care. They get their cut of the Big East pie and don't have to spend any money on coaching or recruits. joining that conference was the worst idea ever.

Joining it was a great idea. Putting 0 effort into upgrading the men's basketball program was the worst idea ever.

Joining it was never a good idea. DePaul wasn't going to gain any recruiting advantage out east going against some of those monsters, and they were opening up Chicago as a showcase for teams like UConn, Georgetown, Syracuse, whomever. DePaul freaked out because they were worried they'd be the last team standing in C-USA.

And on the topic of DePaul, Carmody absolutely needs to pounce on Chicago while he has the chance. DePaul doesn't have much hope for the future, but they're not gonna go 0-18 every year, and Wainwright really isn't that bad of a recruiter.

But when you've got an 0-18 ugly ugly season, it's not gonna be easy. Northwestern needs to put itself out there as THE Chicago program. Sell them on the idea of playing in their hometown and not having to take a 40 minute bus ride for it.

If UIC and Loyola have their ish together, DePaul could sink even further. The problem is if they're not gonna fire Wainwright, there's not much they can do. They need some new, young, energy in there. Robinson should be A#1, but there are others out there that can do a hell of a lot better. I know there's a financial crunch, but there's gotta be some rich alum who wants him out that can help them out. They're never going to get out of the cellar with Wainwright there. It's too bad, he's supposedly a hell of a nice guy, and does things the right way, but it just hasn't worked out.

Gotta feel bad for Arizona getting jobbed at Washington. Pac-10 refereeing is so bad.

You've gone soft.

TIJAN JOBE SCORED!!

Maybe it's because UCLA lost its chance at an outright championship with Arizona losing. (UCLA better not get worked by Berkeley on national TV in a short while.)

if penn st loses to indiana they should just cancel the rest of the season.

I really don't want out 33 point effort to look any worse, so if you can win that'd be great.

well file that one under "bad win." oh well, a loss there would've dropped them from "straddling the line between in and out" to "not being considered" so it's better than the alternative.

I figured IU would find a way to let it slip away. Can't argue with their effort though. Some around here were down on Verdell Jones, but I've been really impressed with his play during the Big 10 season.

Yeah, unfortunately it's a broken record with IU. They had chances with Iowa twice, Penn State, Minnesota, Michigan, and Northwestern. They've only won 1 of the 3 close home games and have lost all 3 close road games. They just don't have many options down the stretch when creating your own shot becomes more important.

I am impressed with Jones as well. It's going to be a good competition between him, Rivers, and Hulls for the two point guard spots next year.

Saw this comparison on a broadcast today and thought it was interesting. Using Sagarin's numbers:

Team A: 21-7, 38 SOS, 1-3 v. Top 25, 6-6 v. Top 50, worst loss is #62, 1-2 against common opponents

Team B: 21-8, 67 SOS, 0-3 v. Top 25, 4-6 v. Top 50, worst loss is #67, 2-1 against common opponents

Obviously Team A should be put ahead, but how much? Lunardi has Team A(UCLA) as a 5 seed and Team B(aTm) as one of the first few out.

Cal-UCLA has been a good one, Cal leads 34-32 at the half. UCLA had a 7 point play where they drew an intentional foul and still made the basket, made both FTs, then got a 3. I kinda agree with the announcers that it doesn't seem fair. Maybe they should consider adding a provision that if the team makes the shot on the intentional foul, they don't get the extra possession, just the two shots.

Yeah. It was an intentional foul for sure but it seems a bit excessive to get possession after the basket and 2 free throws.. But I've never seen a 7-point play, that was ridiculous.

About time this team gets a big road win.

SIU won on senior night tonight and with a little help from Bradley and UNI, we got the 5th seed in the MVC Tournament. Wow is the Valley bad or what this year. Just a couple of days ago, we were 9th and everyone thought for sure we'd be playing in the play-in round on Thursday. Now with two wins in a row, we have ourselves in the favorable part of the bracket as we play Bradley on Friday and we avoid ISU/Creighton until the title game (if we were to make it that far).

What a crazy year. I'm just hoping this team does what Illinois did last year and has a good tournament (make it to the championship game at least) and build some confidence for next year.
