What? I just watched it and what could he have possibly been saying to upset the ref so much to kick a mascot out of a game?

He headbutted the official.

Oh ha I didn't see that. I thought he was just jawing at him or something

Why? It's the Big Ten Player of the Year. Not Big Ten player of the year on a competitive team.

yeah but it never works that way unless the player on the "bad" team is overwhelmingly good.

I hope we win tonight. Won't be able to watch, I will be playing basketball against former cub great Brian McCrae.

That guy is a dick. I met him when he played for the Royals.

He sucks at basektball too. We beat hs team by 15 and that was with Greg Gurley keeping them close.

Questions:

Was McCrae a prick?

Gurley can still hoop? Was he just shooting, or did he have any athleticism left?

Na McCrae was ok. He was clearly the worst player on the court so he was pretty nice with everyone. But, man did he body the hell out of you.

Gurley was one of the nicest stud athletes I have ever met. He has kinda let himself go a bit. Still a good shooter and still was a decent athlete in flashes. He made one move where you could go, "Damn, so that's how he played at KU." But, he was very good at getting guys up in the air and then jumping into them to get to the line. Still has a pretty good game and I can imagine he was a load when he was younger.

In all honestly, one would have to wonder how often the best player in the Big Ten plays on a subpar team. Basketball is a five-person sport and one player carries great influence. Not to say the team with the best player invariably wins the league championship, but I'd posit it would be exceedingly rare for the best player to play for a mediocre to poor team.

Agreed I think you take Harris of Michigan though and they are almost IU bad.

come on. they beat ucla, duke and illinois and pomeroy has them rated #78. IU is rated #210 and the best team they've beaten is either TCU or cornell. they shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath of bad-ness.

On a side note I hadn't realized how good Manny Harris has been for Michigan. I knew he was scoring didn't know he was rebounding and assisting too. He's 2nd in the conference in scoring, tied for league lead in rebounds, and 6th in assists. He should win BIg Ten Player of the Year.

Your team usually has to be, you know, good to win Big Ten POY.

If Harangody leads the Big East in scoring and rebounding again (he's doing both rather easily right now) and doesn't win Big East POY, I'll be pissed regardless of ND's standing, and I'd imagine the same applies to Harris and UM.

If Harris proves to be the best player, he should win the award. If not they should change it to conference MVP and be done with it.

That said, I'm sure someone will prove to be at least as deserving for a more competitive team.

Depends on who finishes where obviously. If Purdue finishes top 3 I could see Hummel or Johnson winning it. Johnson has been the best center in the Big Ten (16th in points, 11th in rebounds, 3rd in FG%, 1st in blocks). Meanwhile Hummel is still putting up very good numbers despite playing with a bad back and not practicing a single day since December. Plus he has the preseason player of the year going for him. People could vote for him because it makes them look good for picking him in the preseason.

Right now I would vote for Harris but there isn't a clear cut definite favorite.

i dont think you can be 16th in points and be BTPOY.

haha, well that objectivity for ya.

but, in actuality, i think the whole purdue team deserves to win it, and i assume that they will.

Agreed, actually on second thought I am going to give it to Matt Painter's mole in a tight race over Thad Matta's mole.

Cubbiebum, how about cause Robbie can't sniff Manny Harris. That a good enough reason for you? How about because he is less valuable to his team than Kevin Coble is to Northwestern?

The Big Ten game Hummel missed was the loss to Penn State. I think that shows how valuable he is to Purdue. Whether he should be or not almost everyone looks at Hummel as the clear front man for Purdue and he won preseason player of the year. Add in how he hasn't practiced a day since December and plays with a very bad back he very well may end up winning. His scoring is definitely down but will likely go up by season end, he's one of the top rebounders, has a 2.05 asst/to ratio, gets a good amount of steals, is one of the top 3-pt shooters, and plays great defense.

Like I said right now I would vote for Harris but Hummel is still one of the favorites.

Yeah, but I think most of that is because of how good Manny Harris is. Plus ask Raisin, for some odd reason Howland who is normally an awesome coach suddenly gets his [expletive] on when it's against that 1-3-1. I think he could use my rec league team and give UCLA a game with it.

they also beat duke. indiana couldn't come within 20 of duke.

and i missed the part where you said if you take harris off michigan and they're IU bad, but if you take away any team's best player they're probably not gonna be that good. if penn state lost talor battle they'd probably win 1 game the rest of the year (indiana).

I coulda sworn LewJack and his 45 point per game average would be the frontrunner for Purdue.

Nobody cares that Hummel won preseason player of the year, that has nothing to do with who's going to win player of the year.

Nobody cares that Hummel hasn't practiced since December. And no, I don't believe this either.

Nobody cares that he has a gimpy back.

Nobody cares that you for some reason think his scoring will go up despite playing tougher competition.

Robbie Hummel will be lucky to make 2nd team all Big Ten.

You are going to look real stupid in a couple months. The media and coaches notice things like those you listed and care. That's why it has been brought up every broadcast. It's not fair but people are highly toted in preseason get more praise throughout the season and in postseason awards. The fact he was preseason player of the year will get him a couple extra votes even though it shouldn't.

Oh and you can believe what you want about Hummel practicing but that is what he, Painter and ESPN has been saying for the last couple weeks. I choose to believe the people who would know and not just refuse to even though I have no insight into the truth of the matter.

Yeah, voters are gonna say, oh Robbie Hummel has a hurt back, so we'll ignore that he's about 15th best player in the Big Ten right now, we're gonna give him an award cause dammit, we said so back in October!

Have you seriously not learned that voters are incredibly stupid yet?

give it to hansborough, he'd be the best player in the big ten if he had gone to school in the big ten

Watching Notre Dame-Pitt right now. This game is a perfect example of why they will never do anything come tournament time. All they do is shoot threes. That's it. That's all they've ever done under Brey. And if they're not hitting their threes, they're atrocious. I mean holy crap. They have 9 threes in the first half, yet they're only up four. I'm shivering to think how bad they are if they aren't hitting threes all game.

They're not going to make the tournament anyway, but this is abnormal. They hit the first few, so they kept shooting it. If they don't start hot they usually start doing other things, but why not keep shooting it if you're putting it in?

Can't wait to hear the Purdue's fans justifing Manny harris getting kicked out for elbowing Chris Kramer.

What a complete joke that he was ejected. Michigan was playing well too. Now they've completely fallen apart.
