this board desperately needs an illinois basketball thread.

The Bruce Weber thread in rants was great, now we just need one like it in Social.

Oh my god. Oregon State just snapped a 22 game conference losing streak against USC.

OSU owns the Trojans :[

Also, I hate Daniel Hackett.

GOD DAMNIT.

OU was counting on USC as one of their better win. Thanks guys.

Well, that's what you get for relying on the Pac-10.

But don't worry, USC will somehow beat UCLA next Sunday.

One of ND and Georgetown will be 1-2 in conference after tomorrow night.

Honestly I don't see how we beat them. It may be at home where we've won 44 straight, but we haven't beaten the Hoyas since, I think, 2003. Or really come even close. They have some sort of hex on ND. Or maybe we just can't play defense, that could be it too.

The Duke system only works really well when Coach K is getting every call to go his way. That's really what the problem is for ND. Well, that, and like you said, they don't play any defense.

What's up with the league this year? Purdue beats BC and BC beats North Carolina handily. Michigan losses random games, but beats Duke and UCLA. U of I beats Purdue and Mizzou then losses to Michigan

Purdue at Penn State tomorrow night. Eek.

Should be a decent game...Us coming off a loss at home and playing on the road, plus Penn State is better than last year

But seriously...Oregon State!? That's got to be their first conference win since Gary Payton was there.

Looks like our boy Stevie is losing his hair.

Either that or a bird landed in it before the game.

Wow. Arkansas 28 in one poll...36 in the other. Weird. And Oklahoma lost to 28/36 and fell 2 spots in both polls. Huh. If they can knock off #7 tomorrow, I bet they'll move up a spot or two.

Everyone knows Deron is way behind Frankie in the ultimate "Illinois guard named Williams" standings.

Agreed. At least when it comes to being cool.

And just being all around sick. I still can't get over this. Sorry Iowa fans.

I was too young when the 89 team was around, but Frank is the best PG I have seen at Illinois in terms of playmaking ability and taking over a game. Too bad he could never put it together in the NBA.

Thanks. I had blocked out that entire season post-Christmas.

Ranked top 5 preseason by some and mostly stayed in top 10 in the non-conference. Favorites to win the Big Ten. Lost to Mizzou in Guardian's Classic (only to beat them by 20 later at Mizzou), Duke and at UNI which prompted Alford to throw away their pizza after the game and make them ride back to Iowa City hungry.

Sitting at like 13-3 and after stomping Wisconsin at home my only concern walking out of Carver was whether we would be able to win the Big Ten and grab a 1 or 2 seed.

We then went 4-11 in the rest of the Big Ten as the team imploded and quit.

Notre Dame goes 5 on 8 and wins 73-67. I could very well be way off since I was there and not seeing it on TV, but it sure seemed like Georgetown got a lot of bad calls in their favor tonight, many of them fouls against us. Harangody got his 4th foul with 15 minutes to go on a complete joke of an offensive foul call but managed to play much of the rest of the game without getting a 5th. He dominated for a couple of stretches and put up 31 and 11 against the stiffest D in the league. A win we needed to have, streak or no streak.

I'm pretty sure this is the season that killed any excitement for basketball in the state of Iowa.

You would be correct. That and Pierce the next year.

We were a 1 seed that year so I don't know where you were getting you were favored to win the big ten. I still have a couple of magazines from that year and it was a tossup between us and MSU in both of them.
