Early signing period rankings

A relieving quiet day for the Illini. Griffey, DJ, and Paul are sent, and Bertrand's should be on the according to IB.

11:41 a.m. Illinois has three Letter’s of Intent in hand. Brandon Paul, Tyler Griffey and D.J. Richardson are the ones done. Joseph Bertrand is expected to send his stuff in shortly after a press conference at noon. The Fightin’ Ilini put together a solid class in 2009, and check in at No. 13 overall, but it’s the 2010 class that has the recruiting world buzzin’! (ED)

Sounds like UCLA is in the lead for Moser.

Not too bad for Texas today. If they could somehow grab Xavier Henry which seems unlikely now, that could give them the top class.

I don't think X has considered Texas for a long time now. The Henry camp has said it's Memphis or KU. Doesn't matter. Texas got another nice class.

Bracketology is out. He has Wisconsin at 2 Michigan State at 3 and Purdue at 4. I don't understand how this dude ever got famous for being really good. He's like Kiper that way. Wrong as much as anyone he is just thrown in your face by ESPN so you think he knows a lot.

Thats what I was reading, looks like his brother is going to Memphis so that would be my guess. happy with the Texas class though, especially considering where they are all coming from.

Crean already turning things around! Elston, Creek, and Watford will be fun to watch. The experience the guys get this year, will hopefully pay dividends when the talent starts to roll in next year.

He usually gets better around tournament time, but he's considered an expert because he averages about 64/65 teams in the tournament every year. That looks impressive, but there's usually only a few slots in question on Selection Sunday. If my full time job was to predict the bracket I'm pretty sure I could average that. If I remember correctly our NSBB committee only missed one team this last year, and most of our individual rankings were very close as well.

Mizzou at 11...playing 6 KU in the first round, haha.

But seriously, I just hope we make the NIT.

The recruiting expert at KU's Scout site thinks Mizzou will be decent this year, a tourney team.

Just another Bracketology snafu. Teams in the same conference can't play each other in the first round. What a clown.

I've heard a lot of people say that, but I don't really know what to think. I haven't had a chance to get out to either of the exhibitions, but I know some of the new kids are solid. I'm not expecting a tourney berth this year, but I'll be very pleased with the NIT. At least it'll show we've made SOME progress over the past few years.

He's actually very good at taking in-season data and applying it to the paradigm used by the selection committee. However, he knows absolutely nothing about basketball and his preseason predictions are beyond preposterous.

And we weren't even trying to project what would happen, just what should happen.

Lunardi is no doubt Jerry Mathers incarnate, but man I hope Purdue fans complaining about a lack of respect aren't the new Illinois/Indiana this year.

Depends. Purdue has a tough schedule to start out with a couple big games. If they win those and are still ranked behind MSU I will be complaining. If Purdue wins the PreNIT and beat Duke they better be in the top 7 or so and if they continue to win going into conference (beating Davidson in Wooden Tradition) they should be top 5 but I don't think they would be.

Malcolm Lee and Jrue Holiday are freaking ridiculous.

I guess that's possible, but it's going to take a lot of newcomers really adapting well. Fortunately, I think Mizzou has a legitimate chance of winning every game on their schedule, unlike last year.

Kevin Dillard is going to be a ton of fun to watch for 4 years here. He was absolutely ridiculous in the 2nd half as he buried four 3s to pull us back from an 11 point deficit against UMass. Carlton Fay is having a great start to his sophomore season as he scored 5 huge points late in the game to give SIU the lead for good. He finished with 17 and Mullins had 16, 13 assists, and 4 boards.

We were real bad in the first half but we were awesome in the 2nd half. I'm probably going to have to get used to this because of all the true freshman we have playing for us. Now we play Duke next week at the Garden. I'm just hopeful that we give them a game.
