Just this past offseason the Rox inked Cook to an extension thru 2011 or 2012 (team option).

I wouldn't assume that the team having a down year changes their view that he's a big part of their rotation for the long-term.

With Fuentes about to be a FA, he may be a little cheaper than expected. I'd be ok with getting him, but I'd be cautious not to overpay.

I'm thinking a good comp here is Linebrink '07.

He was the hot BP arm last July, and was dealt for Will Inman and two other minor leaguers.

Jul 25,2007 - Traded by Padres to Brewers for Joe Thatcher, Will Inman and Steve Garrison

The Brewers let him walk and took the picks (#s 35 and 54).

So what can we equate that to? Veal, Hart, and a throw in?

And unfortunately I think there is little chance of getting Cook. I don't think he's going anywhere and even if he was I'm not sure if the Cubs can take on anymore long-term contracts.

If the Cubs could land CC, and Fuentes before the deadline, you have to believe the Cubs would be the head on favorite in the NL.

Z/CC/Demspter/Lilly/Marquis (I assume Hill and/or Gallagher and/or Marshall will be dealt to make it happen) in the rotation.

Lieber/Weurtz

Eyre/Howry

Marmol/Fuentes

Wood

That would be the bullpen, and the backend would arguably be the nastiest backend in baseball, in yrs.

If this is indeed our yr, then we should get both guys.

Aaron Cook along with Fuentes would be sweet.

Agreed. Even if Cook doesn't continue his current production, he's always been a very reliable starter even before the humidor era began. In both 2006 and 2007 his ERA+ was 116. Before that, he didn't have any full seasons, and I'm not sure if that's because of injuries or something else. Anyone know his history?

His BABIP is .283 too. So it looks like he's not getting abnormally lucky either. I'd love to deal for Fuentes and Cook together. What would it cost? Neither figures to play prominently in the Rockies future, so I can't imagine it would be too much. Jose Ceda and Ronny Cedeno?

I don't think Ceda and Cedeno would get you a callback if you're talking about Cook and Fuentes. I would think that they would get better offers than that for either pitcher.

Unfortunately, thanks to Wilken and Hendry, we have almost nothing of value to trade.

I'm to the point where I can't see us landing a legit #2 or better without including someone like Lee or Aramis (obviously not going to happen). There's a greater chance of someone from within stepping up and performing like a #2 by the end of the year than there is of us acquiring one.

I hope Hendry serves me a big ol' dish of crow on this one.

Fuentes is the rare reliever that has shown the ability to be consistently good from year to year. I wouldn't have much issue trading for him so long as it didn't cost much.

His numbers look fine but I remember him losing the closing job to Corpas.

But that's irrelevant really. The bullpen is not where upgrades are needed and in recent memory reliever trades have been something a rip-off.

Furthermore, people have gone from one extreme to another on this board. People have gone from thinking Brian Roberts was worth trading our 6 best trade chips for to people thinking essentially garbage is going to net Fuentes or Fuentes and Cook. You float these names to people who are fans of other teams and they don't cut it. Nobody gives a crap about Veal or Murton or Cedeno or even Ceda really. Let's get serious, we've got virtually nothing of value.

Most teams trading for a legit #2 starter have given up on 2008 and are looking to the future, so they would want young players or prospects.

Carlos Marmol is the biggest trading chip we have at this point. Not that we are likely to move him anytime soon, but I think most teams trading away a #2 starter are looking to get younger players back than Lee or Ramirez.

With the way that pitchers are currently valued, I can't help but think that guys like Marshall, Gallagher, and Hart have to have some value. They all have had some success at the major league level already and under the teams control for at least four more years. Are they enough to land a Sabathia or Burnett is the question.

Fuentes>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Eyre

I'm all for it depending on the price tag.

Regardless your opinion of Eyre, dude is on a roll right now. No Runs in 30 straight appearances is impressive, even if many of those are just one or two batters.

Which we don't have.

I believe you meant most teams trading away a legit #2.

D't think it's been said but Rosentha; re-edited the article saying that we have no interest in Fuentes and went on to mention how good Eyre and Cotts have done. He left the CC part in there though.
