just got in. jesus, this board/thread is the proverbial bitch-fest. have we traded geo, yet? is dlee in minors? did marmol die yet?

Imagine if we were in last place instead of having the best record in baseball. Some people will bitch about the stupidest stuff no matter what. My favorite is the freaking out about Kerry Wood coming in to save a 1 run lead. You'd think he was awful.

Yeah, a 3 run lead turns into a 1 run lead. What fan would care about that?

Had nothing to do with Wood's level of talent.

*shrug* I was never worried. I would've been pissed had they actually blown the lead, but we pretty much have the best team in baseball. What's to get so stressed about? :)

I do remember getting extremely pissed when the 95-96 Bulls would lose, but those were extremely rare and I was 12.

No...if we were in last place, the fans would be much more apathetic. The difference is, our expectations have been raised, and we hold the Cubs to a higher level than we did in 2005, 2006 or even 2007 at this point in the year. We want to see Geo succeed so badly, because we know his succcess is a central piece to us winning the World Series.

Well then, it'd be nice of some people would show even an iota of baseball acuity and post intelligently - identifying that Soto is a ROOKIE. And most ALL rookies have to adjust their game as they develop and as the league gets to know them.

Still doesn't explain the people who STILL don't want to see Woody in a one run game despite peripherals that match the best relievers in baseball. That's just idiocy, in my opinion.

It's what you'd expect in the heat of the moment in a game thread.

I couldn't figure out how Soriano could be charged with an error when all he did was slip a bit, but it was changed.

It was because he missed the cutoff man. A throwing error I'd imagine.

He missed the cutoff man on a throw to second to try to prevent a double? That's not an error. The play was at second and the throw went to second. It shouldn't matter if the throw is off-line or if the runner hesitates. Nothing Soriano did allowed that runner to stretch it into a double since you can't assume a putout at second.

Escobar had stopped around first. He only went to second when he saw the throw get away. If Soriano fields it cleanly and hits the cutoff man Escobar stops at first.

Missing a cutoff man isn't an error unless the ball gets away and the runner advances.

Which is exactly what happened. Escobar had put on the breaks.

It's what I expect people to SAY in the heat of the moment during a game, but in a format like this, you have to actually type it out and then hit submit, which should allow even just a little restraint.

Yea, I've always thought the same thing.

While I'll swear at the TV and say stuff like "Damnit Aramis, you suck, WTF!" I've never actually felt inclined to type it out and post it...

How convenient that you forgot to mention it was you who used that word first. What did you expect, an award for it?

I agree, but clearly some people prefer typing it out. Maybe it's a way of venting.

I don't expect anything for it. I simply thing the total absence of rational thought, even in game threads is [expletive]. I am perfectly capable of swearing and saying stupid things, but when typing out a response, I try to think before I do it. I guess you don't think people should. So be it.

That's exactly what it is for me. If the rules are changed where it is no longer allowed, then I'll stop. Otherwise, I wish people would understand that it's just like anyone else at a game or watching TV with their friends.

Man, you have no idea how a Bulls loss back in those days just completely ruined it.

I do that. When something really annoying happens, it takes me at least 20 seconds to think rationally about it again.

I remember in 95-96 when we lost 2 in a row, I think the second of those games was to Cleveland. I didn't want to goto school the next day.

Geovany doesn't like it when game threads are full of overreaction and everybody is bitching at each other.

Thankfully Geo takes it out on the other team and not us.

Three-headed, twelve-limbed, flying pinstriped outfield monster. Kosuke always looks so gleeful as they do the jump.

Great win, terrible song

I love that song. Mainly because it means that the Cubs just won, but I had it on a some Cubs cassette when I was a kid in 1984. Brings back some good memories for me.

:yahoo:

Its not like the song is on my ipod. i just like hearing for obvious reasons

Exactly.

He put on the breaks, but he didn't retreat. He just hesitated half-way between first and second. He didn't make any indication that he was going back to first, though, so the play was still at 2nd base. Hitting the cutoff man or throwing straight to second is perfectly fine, especially with Soriano's arm. The problem was that he slipped a bit and the throw pulled DeRosa away from the bag, but the play was still at 2nd base.
