Could the Cubs possibly be cheating at home? The home and road splits are ridiculous.

Player AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS

Home-Total 1149 218 355 76 4 45 204 139 224 18 7 .309 .387 .500 .887

Most of the players show the same type of splits too (exception: Soto). I know the BoSox were accused of cheating a couple of years ago. I doubt it's happening, but I figure it's a possibility.

I'm not sure... the BoSox were accused of putting a camera in center field somewhere and somehow relaying info to the batter. Sounds far fetched, but I really can't think of a better reason for us to be so good at home and so enemic on the road.

The Braves must be cheating at home, too.

Here's my explanation for the Cubs' bad road record.

Yesterday's game in LA, they made several errors.

The last two games in Pittsburgh were both blown by errors.

If the Cubs would stop making errors on the road, they would have a much better road record.

True, they could easily be sitting at 3 over on the road rather than 3 under, and nobody would be talking about this. They have also gotten a couple of lucky breaks at home. Also - this was referenced on the last broadcast - the team has a number of players with much better career home splits than road spilts. I don't see cheating as a realistic possibility here.

I think it's a non-issue. 3 under on the road isn't that bad (sure, it would be nice if it were better). Teams generally play better at home than on the road.

THe Cubs have always stolen signs from the scoreboard. Its a commonly known fact. It almost makes up for the rigors of playing so many day games.

Umm... what was the latest excuse about Wrigley?

yeah, whatever.

I think the originator of this thread is actually Mark Buerhle.

Who's Mark Buerhle?

They caught me. I've been putting snot on the balls.

Haven't they always said "make hay a home, go .500 on the road"? That's basically what we're doing. We're only 2 games under. Only three teams have winning records on the road.

Most players have better home numbers than road numbers. I don't have the numbers, but I'd guess Wrigley is playing as one of the best hitter's parks in the league, granted a lot of it because the Cubs play there.

8th best hitters park, and we haven't had too many games with the wind blowing out yet.

Actually the Braves were accused of using a camera in CF to cheat several years ago. The camera opererator would supposedly turn the camera left or right depending on what type of pitch was coming.

Saying the home/road splits mean that we must be cheating is about as founded as using Sosa's weight gain throughout his 20s as proof he was juicing.

if you look closely at the video from our last home game, you can clearly see an ace of spaces fall out of Fukudome's sleeve when he took the field in the top of the 6th

darn Japs always hiding cards up their sleeves ... Fukudome is the biggest reason for the stat discrepency. He's batting like .370 at home and .200 on the road. Not used to traveling like this I guess.

For the record, I don't think any team is cheating. However, if the BoSox were doing it, it's more likely to be this year than a couple of years ago. I didn't realize it until now, but they have a better record at home than we do! They're sitting at 26-6, while we're at 26-8. I wonder if the league wide splits are off this year compared to years past, there seems to be several clubs throwing the curves with exceptional home win-loss records (Boston, Us, WSox, Braves, Rays).
