Quite honestly, Steve Stone sill has an axe to grind with the Cubs and his act has really gotten old. He still takes his subtle jabs at the Cubs and he comes off as a cry baby.

IMO, Brenly is just as good as Stone ever was in the booth and he isn't affraid to speak his mind when he doesn't like a certain move, pitch, etc.

If you could take a pick between Stone and Brenly, who would you rather have in the booth? For me, it's a slam dunk for Brenly.

I have to say I prefer Brenly. I always liked Stone, especially partnered up with Harry, but nothing irked me more than Stone's "here's a lesson at home for all you youngsters watching the game" crap.

Why did the youngsters quote bug you?

Both have their positives and negatives.

Stone came across as more of a know-it-all, nothing really endearing about how he analyzes the game, but he does analyze the game in more of an advanced manner where you don't feel like it is broadcast for the casual fan or someone just learning the game.

Brenly lets the game come to him better where he describing what is happening without diverting from what is happening out there. Unfort., when I listen I feel like I'm being talked to as if I was 8 years old again.

I loved Stone's for all you youngsters.

Generally, I did too. It usually preceded some fair criticism of the team/player out there (contrary to some viewers' perceptions that he didn't do it much). The overuse of that exact phrasing was slightly annoying, though.

All-in-all, I'm with Brenly. I really think he's solid -- which is becoming the new "Very Good" in broadcasting, it seems. He's especially good with Kasper, I think.

It was just a good way to get the kids watching to pay extra attention to what he is about to say. I know when I was a little ankle biter and he would say that, that I would listen more and process what he was about to say.

I guess the reason I hated that quote was because Stone gave the advice as if he was immune to any of the mistakes the guys on the field made, like he was better than all those guys and would never make those types of mistakes.

I really enjoyed Steve Stone, and hated it when he left. He never came across as a "know it all" to me, I learned a lot from his work growing up. Joe Morgan is what I would call a "know it all" and he has always been nerve-racking to an extent - nothing like the crew they use in Cincy now, but you know what I mean.

Bob Brenly - I love. He really seems like the kind of guy you'd play a few holes of golf with and then go to the clubhouse and get wrecked with and talk baseball all night. I never thought I'd say this, but I love the team we have now and prefer it over all others.

Steve Stone and Harry Caray just represent some great memories, and the torch has passed.

Stone was really good with Harry. I too enjoyed his tips for youngsters. Bob cracks my ass up though. my only question about Bob is, did he ever manage the Arizona Diamondbacks?

Yes. He and Len should do comedy as they are quite funny together.

I have laughed out loud countless times this year with the wise cracks.

I just don't get why so many people are down on him as a manager. I mean, the man did win a WS.

I looked at it as he wanted the kids to pay special attention and learn from it but I could see how you'd feel that way due to his arrogance.

As others have said, Stone with Harry and Brenly with Kasper each have their plus and minuses but I enjoyed both pairs. I wonder how Bob would have done with Harry and Stoney with Kasper though.

I love Brenly as an announcer, but after listening to him, I want him nowhere near the dugout. His obsession with bunting, and hitting and running, etc.... is enough for me to really have to desire ever to see him in the Cubs dugout.

Last month when the Cougar was shot here in Chicago, Len had asked Bob if he had seen any Cougars (Or something similar to that) out and about in the area.

After about 5 sceonds of dead silence (I think there were both too busy laughing) Bob said something along the lines of:

"It depends on what part of the city you are talking about".

They both cracked up on air. I'm telling you, these guys are not only very funny, but both are great announcers.

Brenly won a World Series because he had Schilling and Randy Johnson on his staff. Not including Spring Training, here are Schilling and Johnson's IP for 2001, the year they won the World Series:

Schilling: 305 IP

Big Unit: 291 IP

Jeeze....Schilling at least had pretty good control, I can't imagine how many pitches Johnson threw that year.

Arizona won 52 of their 92 games when either Schilling or Johnson started the game.

Johnson actually had really good control in 2001.

If he could do that all the time with an occasional at the head, I can't imagine the K numbers he would have had.

I've loved how Bob has opened up this year and has become quite loose in his talking. Tons of subtle jokes, and his ability to reference online blogs and the such.

I especially like it when he doesn't hesitate on-air to call Blanco by his correct name, Hank White.

Schilling and Johnson were a combined 9-1 in the playoffs that year, also. They pitched in a total of 12 of their 17 playoff games. They lost 6 games in the playoffs in '01, so you can see just how bad the rest of their rotation was.
