jeepers creepers. This may have worked several weeks ago, but the guy is SLG .710 in May. .710. Slugging. I hate his contract. I wish he weren't hitting first in the lineup this season. But a .710 slugging and you want him shipped to Iowa?

You & several others are here must be watching a different game than the rest because Soriano clearly has blown as many games as he's won.

Hah-hah! Did you just basically say the .710 slugging differs from what you've seen? And exactly how many games has he won or lost? Outside of the blown catch in Pittsburgh (which had zero to do with his legs or his approach at the plate or anything else you just railed on an had everything to do with the FREAKIN' SUN), how can you determine how he ad he alone has actually "won" or "lost" a game?

But it's okay for Johnson to be a black hole against RHP and for Edmonds to be a black hole against everybody?
They're out of options, so they get a free pass.

But he just signed Edmonds. And I don't mind Johnson on the roster for LHP, but it seems stupid for me to say that Pie got booted for not producing when we have gotten no production whatsoever from center field against RHP.

that's my problem as well. Pie should have gotten a month straight starting to see if he can produce. Giving him 5 games doesn't give him time to adjust to the faster pitching.

The Hill thing as infruiated me from the moment he was pulled. Yes he was walking people but his ERA was still 4.11. He can walk all the people he wants as long as he strikes the next guy out and doesn't allow a run. He has been our most consistent pitcher the last two years and he's yanked 2 weeks into the season when his ERA is still somewhat good??? That makes absolutely no sense.

Not that big of a deal, but no, Zambrano has been been our most consistent pitcher. Honestly, I think Rich Hill has been ridiculously inconsistent. He either looks unhittable and the next big thing. Or he just gets rocked, and gives up home run after home run. Either way, he should be in the rotation, and Marquis shouldn't.

inconsistent or not, hill has been the best cubs' pitcher since ASB of '06. and zambrano wasn't exactly the model of consistency last year.

the absurdity of demoting and subsequently burying the guy who has been your best pitcher over a 1 1/2 season stretch is just mind-boggling. think of other teams and who their best starter over that stretch is and what it would be like if they just sent them to AAA after 2-3 bad starts.

You & several others are here must be watching a different game than the rest because Soriano clearly has blown as many games as he's won. Why does he get mentioned so often? Because he's a very easy target. He has no legs, can't play in the OF, is about the least clutch performer as it gets in baseball. Has no patience at the plate even though his spot in the lineup calls for it. Brenly is fully aware of it. Why aren't you? Lou continues to cater to this baby. It's like keeping him happy is more important than winning games. It's almost as bad as it was during the Sammy era the last 2-3 yrs. This team goes nowhere in the postseason if it thinks Soriano first, team second.

While I agree there are several less than pleasent issues involving Soriano, bringing up the idea of moving him to AAA is pointless.

lol...because you bring him up in EVERY SINGLE thread.

Why must hendry be so dumb?

Murton would be a great 4th outfielder. Honestly, I'd rather have him than Ward simply because Ward is a huge liability in any role other than pinch hitter.

Pie was producing at a Jim Edmonds level. This is not hard to figure out. Dump Edmonds and let Pie play.

Rich Hill could walk 15 batters per game and still be worlds better than Marquis. DFA Marquis and let Hill be the 5th starter.

of all the crazy posts i read on here, i think the ones where people claim to have the ability to read players' minds are my favorite.
it's kind of funny how murton knows his stats like that. as if he's just been waiting for someone to ask him so he can throw them out there to make hendry look stupid.

I must have missed the memo that Murton was good or something. :-k I have never seen a player hit as many weak grounders then him.

As far as Pie, well, the kid has struggled and quite honestly has looked lost up here. I also understand that Edmonds has been bad. That said, Pie needs to show a semblance of the strike zone if he wants to stay here.

Rich Hill has 1 more mutli-HR allowed game than Zambrano since the beginning of last year. (All came last season.)

I'm not bashing Rich Hill. I want him up and think it was crazy to ever send him down, but he isn't even comparable to Carlos Zambrano. When Z goes out there I have a great deal of confidence the Cubs are going to win the game. When Hill goes out there, I honestly don't feel good one way or another. The rotation should be

1. Z

2. Lilly

3. Dempster

4. Hill

5. Gall

People do underestimate the walks though. Yes he might get out of a lot of jams because he can strike people out, but at the same time when you walk a ton of batter, you can't go much more then five innings which then hurts your team for the next few days, not just that one. If Hill does want to become an elite MLB pitcher he has to lower his BBs. But even with that said, he should be trying to fix that problem in the majors not minors.

Us Cubs fans (me included) sure can find a thing to bitch about no matter how good things are going. Whether it be Hill, Pie, Edmonds, Cedeno, Marshall, Marquis, Wood, Johnson, Dempster. We sure don't know how to accept winning. Hell, maybe we should all sit back, relax and watch our ball club. A ball club who is tied for the best record in Majors and has the best record by ourselves in the NL!!!! How many times on May 27th can we say that??

I didn't post that because you were "bashing" Rich Hill. I posted it because what you wrote was inaccurate. Rich wasn't much more likely to melt down and give up HR after HR than Z was. Rich wasn't just comparable to Z heading into this season, he had put up better #s than him the prior season and a half. Then they dicked with his mechanics. Then he lost his control. Then he was demoted. Then he was called a head case. Then Jason Marquis kept starting.

As far as Rich's walks hurting his ability to go deep in ballgames, he averaged a touch over 6 innings per start last year, 2nd on the team to only Zambrano who finished 5th in the NL in innings pitched, and Z only threw a touch less than 1/3 of an inning more per start.

As far as sitting back and enjoying the ride, I've certainly enjoyed this season so far, but no team is perfect, and every team should always be striving for perfection, so as long as there are obvious imperfections with the team, they're going to be pointed out. Trust me we're all watching and enjoying, we just want to enjoy it more and longer.

You're right. Since the season ends today and the team with the best record as of today wins the WS, there's no need to improve the team.

You believe that Brenly and everyone except me and most of this board agrees with you that Soriano should be sent to AAA? The team isn't thinking Soriano first. The team is thinking win first. Having a guy slugging .710 in your lineup and playing LF helps the team win. It's clear his legs aren't 100% and he's certainly cost the team some runs with his defense (though it's hard to blame a guy for losing a ball in the sun - it happens). But his offense in the last month has more than made up for his defense and running problems.

I'm not going to derail this thread by responding to this crap any longer.

If Hill ever gets back to 2007-level performance, this feeling of yours is a problem with your perception, not what's happening on the baseball field.

The Cubs were 18-16 in games Zambrano pitched last season, and 17-15 in games Hill pitched.
