God this offense is so predictable. Pad their stats in the first game and then go to sleep the next.

Don't forget to credit Marquis with the insta-bad inning whenever the Cubs smell a lead

The Cubs losing like 2-1 would be a disaster. Not only would they lose, but Marquis would have pitched well enough to secure his rotation spot even longer.

Here is why I don't understand why the Cubs don't DFA Marquis. I mean, Estaban Loaiza signed a similar deal (3 yrs $21.75 mill) a yr before Marquis (3 yr $21 mill), and yet the Dodgers recognize Loaiza stinks, and they DFA him, but why haven't the Cubs figure this out with Marquis? I understand Loaiza was closer to the end of the contract then Marquis, but if the Dodgers are willing to cut Loaiza (a similarly ineffective starter) early, then what is the Cubs excuse for Marquis?

Loaiza was cut because he sucks. Marquis isn't cut, why?

Durability is huge with organizations. Loaiza only pitched 40 innings last year, and was worse in those innings than Marquis has been either last year or this year (Marquis with a 4.60 ERA, Loaiza had a 5.79 ERA). Then, he came back this year, and while being unlucky had put up a 5.63 ERA, which is quite a bit worse than Marquis's 4.83 to date.

Add that into the fact that Loaiza is 36 years old and in the final year of the contract (which is much easier for GM's to swallow and cut) and there's a huge difference between those two situations.

Buckle up.

Theriot hits a line drive and smashes the pitcher and gets easily tagged out, more bad luck for the Cubs.
