I looks like Jacque Jones is close to signing with the Marlin.

Link.

Marlins have reached agreement with free-agent outfielder Jacque Jones, according to major-league sources.

Jones, 33, initially will report to extended spring training in Florida to get back into playing shape, then return to the majors as a fourth outfielder and left-handed pinch-hitter.

He was cut 2 weeks ago. How fat can a MLB player get in two weeks?

That was a poor choice of words. It makes sense that they would send him on some sort of "rehab" type stint within their system but calling it a chance to get back into playing shape is really weird.

It would be cool if he went on a 2 week bender to Vegas or something and gained 20 pounds boozing up and eating garbage.

I love this quote from ESPN:

Jones has played all three outfield positions in the big leagues and gives the Marlins another leadoff option now that the team has moved shortstop Hanley Ramirez from the top spot to No. 3 in the batting order.

Jacque Jones at leadoff? Hahahaha.

Just the other day after Soriano ripped a couple, ESPN put up a meaningless graphic showing Jacque as one of the last leadoff hitters to have a multi-hit game with 2 HR's, back in 2003.

He's black and can play CF.

Not surprised. They've wanted him for awhile. I'm kinda shocked the Padres didn't make a bigger play for him. Their offense could use a boost, and as bad as it sounds, Jacque would probably be one of their better hitters.

I think the Padres are quickly abandoning any intention of competing this year.

Especially if Peavy is out for any length of time.
