At this point, I don't think either team finishes within 8 games of the Cubs, and I'd prefer the Cardinals lose just to put the Cubs in first and make me feel better.

Me too. I prefer a Milwaukee win here, even if they end up competing for the division title later and the Cardinals finish 22-140. I prefer short-term happiness

Yeah, it just feels like the Cubs are going to run away with the division this year.

Check out what some guy on the cubs.com message board said about Marmol pitching the 9th.

It makes total sense... because he does need the work. Until yesterday he hadn't pitched for 6 days. He only pitched one inning yesterday, so keeping him sharp is important.

Why do you read that garbage?

Like everyone else, I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad with that result.

It's May...so don't beat yourself up over it. Just enjoy the Cubs winning their first series vs. AZ since 2003

Brewers Pythagorean Record since beginning of last season: 98-100.

They are not a threat.

Yovani Gallardo was the only reason they worried me.

It wouldn't have surprised me one bit if that sentence would still have been accurate if you stopped after "series."

PECOTA disagrees, but yes - losing gallardo and having ned yost as a manager are two reasons that their record may not be as good as PECOTA would expect.

I wonder what PECOTA would say if you added in the stats to date this season as well.

It's great that the Cubs finally won another series and all, but it just makes it that much more bitter that these jerks couldn't have won one of three when I flew out from Cali with tix to game four. Of course, if the Cubs were making a repeat performance this weekend, I'd probably have done something to get me in jail by now out of pure raging hatred for those pricks and their stupid purple uniforms.

I guess my point is, the playoffs sucked. And Cubs win. Yay.

I've heard Larussa's reasoning of hitting the P 8th, but have yet to hear Yost's.

It's actually reasonably good logic. Kendall hits for a ton of contact, particularly ground balls, and is pretty slow. He's hit into a ton of DPs the last few years because of it and hitting the pitcher in front of him lessens the amount of runners on base when he's up. I think I heard today during the game he hasn't hit into a DP yet this year.

Figures. The one time the Cubs are on FOX on a Saturday, and they're actually on out here, I have to work and miss the game.

Got back from the game...a few notes:

Soriano looks so much better than a week or two ago. He's able to stop his bat on the terrible pitches now for check swings, and he can then actually do something with the hangers. Definitely the biggest positive to come out of the day today.

Theriot had an up and down day, but definitely more up than down. 3 times on base, and some absolutely sparkling defense today on balls that any SS would have trouble consistently making. Also one of the two times he wasn't on base, he had a very sharp line drive (from watching the play again on TV, it doesn't do it justice of how quick the ball was on the first baseman). Of course the CS drags it down and is very frustrating, although I do agree with someone that Lee doesn't take strike 2 right down the middle of the plate unless it was said from the bench.

Howry looked good today. That's 4 straight innings without an earned run (the only run he gave up in those innings was the St. Louis game when Soriano let those two easy fly balls drop, and Lee also made an error). I think he may have turned a corner.

I was the only fan around me who was really upset that Marmol was coming in. I don't understand why Chad Fox is on this team. He can't go multiple innings, he can't go multiple days, and if they refuse to use him in a 5 run game, when will they again? That was the only really upsetting part of the day.

Well besides Johnson continuing to start against rightys, Id agree. I cant believe Felix didnt get to start the last 2 games, and with Johnson on the mound tomorrow Im sure he will sit then too. Lou is screwing over Felix right now, and its indefensible.
