ARI Max Scherzer, RHP (0-1, 5.40) @CHC Ryan Dempster, RHP (4-1, 2.72)
          Diamondbacks (23-13) Cubs (20-15)

Scouting Report:

D-backs: Scherzer made his Major League debut on April 29 and set the baseball world buzzing as he retired all 13 batters he faced in relief of Edgar Gonzalez. Scherzer, who was the team's No. 1 pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, struck out seven and his electric fastball reached 98 mph at times during the dominating performance. The D-backs put Scherzer in the rotation in place of Gonzalez and he struggled a bit in his first start against the Phillies, allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits over four innings.

Cubs: Dempster is coming off his first loss of the season. He was charged with five runs -- none earned -- on four hits over six innings against the Reds. The right-hander is the first Cubs pitcher to give up at least five unearned runs and no earned runs since Greg Hibbard was charged with six runs, all unearned, on July 11, 1993, against Houston. Dempster did strike out a season-high seven, but the Reds took advantage of two errors by the Cubs for the win.

Damn I wish I could watch this game. Luckily for me, I get to watch the Cards/Brewers! Sweet!

Oh well, I don't think we can beat a guy with eyes like this anyways:

scherzer is a guy you have to be patient against; fortunately most of this year's team actually knows how to do that.

If he's struggling with his breaking stuff and has to rely on his fastball to get strikes, we should be able to hit him pretty well, but if he's getting his breaking stuff going, it could be a very ugly day for us.

Scherzer is going to get lit up. He's throws the fastball way too much and doesn't have anything else yet. Still needs to develop his 2nd pitch.

I expect a loss.

Jinx. You guys win now.

The last time the Cub won a series vs. Arizona is 2003.

That said, last year we won the opening game in both series (sans playoffs) and lost the last two.

We were in the playoffs last year? Hmm. Don't recall. Seems like the sort of thing that'd be memorable.

2:40?!? Ugh, screw off, Fox. I thought I was gonna get to see most or all of this game before I had to leave for work by 3:30.

taking at least 2-3 from the D Backs would give me the feeling that the Cobs are at least starting to get back on track. However, the Cubs offense never seems to do well against these kind of rookie sensations the first time they see them.

Lets just hope that we can get good Demp in there.

Cards have Sheets to contend with, and a Cubs win and a Cards loss would have us...tied for 1st?!?

Fantasy etiquitte mandates you must start him, and take it on the chin for the benfit of the Cubs.

Yeah, what the hell. I started Haren yesterday and look how well that worked out!!!

Also, today is NSBB day at wrigley. I would hope there are at least a couple people bringing signs to hype this and get shown on TV.
