Yeah I dont see where all the hate for Lou over this is. Rich was clearly incapable of throwing a strike. Plus hes a headcase. We dont need him having a mental breakdown right now.....

Hill wasn't even close, his delivery looked like crap, and he is a headcase. If he can get thing figured out he will be very good, but when he loses confidence they might as well pull him.

Gee I wonder why he's a headcase? (not that actually believe it to be true)

I don't know if he's a headcase but if he is it's because Dusty and Lou have made him one.

Thanks for proving my point. Is it ever Hill's fault?

When he starts giving up a lot of runs, sure. But he hasn't yet and he's still getting jerked around for no good reason.

This is not Lou's doing. You can't let Hill walk the park like he's done all year. He's been bad since ST.

Now call me a Hill basher...

Sorry to sound like a total d-bag, but no one gives an F about Spring Training.

He's been better than Lilly and Marquis yet he's been on the outside looking in on this crappy starting rotation.

Exactly. Hill has walked a lot of batters, but has had better overall results than both Lilly and Marquis. I hate how so many people are acting like Hill has been horrible when he has a 3.79 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP coming into today's game. Seriously, just let the guy pitch and shut up. It has gotten quite ridiculous.

Nice bunting. You're hitting the crap out of the ball, but let's bunt. Smart baseball.

there's just no proof that he's been bad. he's walked a lot of guys, but he's been rather good.

No I'm sure what he just did was bad

no, i'm sure his .671 OPS against says he's been good.

18 walks in 19 innings is terrible, regardless of his OPS against.

actually, ops against takes into account how many people make outs against him.

You seriously believe that pitcher who is walking a batter an inning is doing a good job?

I've never been the big Rich lover that abuck and others have been, but the fact is if a pitcher has control issues you don't pull this crap with them, you try to help them out of it instead of yanking their starts around and demoting them every other week. This opinion is not exclusive to Rich. If he did this to Lilly I wouldn't be pleased either.

And his run total is good, and his HR total is adequate, and his HRs allowed are pretty good. What's your point? It's a small sample.

his point is that hill has been bad since spring training, which is based on visceral reaction and anecdotal evidence. sure, he's walked a lot, but to say that means he's been bad is foolish.

Well, I no longer feel good about this one.

Nor do I feel good about the rest of this season. Unless Jimbo goes out and grabs a solid starting pitcher on solid reliever, this team will not make the playoffs. With the exception of Zambrano this pitching rotation sucks. Lilly is at a 6.00 ERA, Dempster's run will end soon, Marquis sucks, Hill can't throw strikes.

Hill was just taken out for lack of command and that's it?

Sorry if it's been answered. I fell asleep by accident when the bases were loaded and I just woke up during the last commercial break.

Them ERA and WHIP numbers ain't gonna be pretty for Rich now.

Did I slip into some alternate universe where walks are the deciding factor in games? I thought it was still runs.

Yes, the walk totals are a problem. But you can't claim they've hurt him much, because he hasn't given up many runs.

And you can't claim he'll suck in the future because of them, because a 19 IP sample-size isn't enough to project from.

Out of context your post make sense. In context it's very stupid.

What doens't make sense? When Hill struggles the collective wisdom around here blames Lou for the most part. Hill has not been very good since Spring Training. I don't know why that is, but he can't throw strikes.

What is stupid would be leaving him out there. He'll turn things around, but its obvious he's not very good right now.

Stop it with the collective wisdom crap. As you can plainly see if you read there are a variety of opinions here.

It doesn't make sense because they just skipped him in the rotation, it's the first inning, and the bottom of the order is coming up. Leave him in. Lou is pissed and acts impulsively. I'm sure it will do wonders for Hill. There's not been a pitcher jerked around more than Hill.

There are a variety of opinions, but mine seems to be the minority. Thats fine though. I hope like hell he turns it around, but he's gotta get things going in the right direction.

Umm, are you watching the same game as us. Rich couldn't throw a strike. 4 walked batters in one inning means you suck.

walk rates are now anecdotal and visceral?

You really have to wonder what the Cardinals are doing. They are just wasting outs left and right.
