I can totally see the Cubs falling apart and getting swept in St. Louis this weekend.

Somebody make me feel better.

the cubs' pythagorean W-L actually improved during this series!

also, this is the st. louis cardinals roster. you should feel better after looking it over.

You should. But then look at 2006 . Think about Jeff Weaver leading them to a title. I feel a lot less better now.

That team won like 83 games or something. Any team can get hot for 15-20 playoff games. It just so happened it was them. :banghead:

I was at the game, and it was going so fast I got the drunkest I've been at a Cubs game for years. I didn't plan to...I just kept remembering the 7th inning cutoff and ended up racing and forgetting I had only had a bowl of cereal to eat/drink for the whole day.

Now I'm in my 3 hour evening computer class until 9 PM...I managed to get food and water after the game, but this is agony. AH-GO-KNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Were the best team in the NL. we're going to sweep the Cards and bing them down to earth. Congrats Brewers on you're newly aquird momentum. It will last them a series or 2, and they'll go back to normal.

The Diamondbacks are, right now at least.

And the upcoming pitching matchups. It's gonna be a blast:

Hill Vs. Wainwright

Lilly Vs. Lohse

Marquis Vs. Wellemeyer

Dempster Vs.Harang

Zambrano Vs. Cueto

Hill Vs. Volquez

Keep in mind that Lohse is off to a great start, and Wellemeyer isn't pitching so bad himself. I'd be thrilled to come away with 3 of those games.

So, I leave for work about quarter tol 4 today. Ok, the Cubs had just gotten out of the top of the 8th, with a 3-1 lead. bI felt REASONABLY confident that all Wood has to do is go 1-2-3. So, at work, I was thinking about watching the Cubs win after work tonight, and look forward to watching Z'man's homerun in the 3rd.

So it's almost 8:30 (I'm at my 2nd job) and I am logging on to check in with you guys and get in on the nice series win. But the FIRST thing I see on NSBB, is the video "Lou Piniella gets fired up after loss." And I am hoping against hope, that this was a replay after the first game of the series....but then as I read the last 2-4 pages of the thread, I realize KW blew the game, and the Cub fell to the Brewers AGAIN at home. It's one thing to lose home series, it happens, but NOT to your chief rival for the division crown,a nd certaintly not back to back series. And what makes matters even more depressing, the Cubs lost a start by Z, who pitched pretty well. To say the rest of the night at work, I will be bummed, it an understatement. This is what I get for being a Cub fan, and being confident with the Cubs having the lead in the 9th. No more. I don't care if the Cub shave a 10 run lead in the 9th, I will never again feel comfortable with the lead in the 9th again.

WTH realization is.....we don't get another opportunity at these punks, till July (the 2nd half), and they don't come back to Chicago till September. The Cubs have to sit on the back-to-back home series loss to the Brewers for over 2 months before they play 'em again. The truth is....WE ARE better then the Brewers. The moment the Cubs players believe that fact, will be the moment the Brewers will realize they won't win the division.

The Cubs need to come out and beat the crap out of St. Louis.

Relax, it's one of 162 games and was prob. the worst defensive, managed, and baserunning game of the year and they were still in a position to win and should've won. They're right there with a Cards team that is playing well but less talented over the long-haul, the Cubs have done nothing to lessen my expectation of them being the best team in the NLC when all is said and done.

Screw you Kerry Wood. You bum.

Come on, man.

What is that his 3rd blown save already this year? Plus the horrible outing in game one. I have had enough of the Wood for closer experiment.

lol

Yeah let's just ignore his 9 scoreless outings and his 1.50 April ERA, or his 11K/BB ratio in April, or the fact that in April he faced 43 batters and only gave up 5 hits and 1 walk.

So for April:

1.50 ERA

11K/BB

.122 BAA

.163 OBPA

.244 SLGA

.407 OPSA

.138 BABIP Against

54 OPS+ Against

0.50 WHIP

8.25 K/9

All this shows is that Kerry Wood is obviously a failure. I'm tired of this, can we please get rid of him?

I rarely get drunk when I go to the games these days, and actually don't drink at all for a lot of them.

It's amazing how good a pitcher looks when you choose an arbitrary timeframe that wipes out his worst appearances.

It's amazing that you seem to be implying that 2 appearances negate or equal an entire month's worth of pitching.

All pitchers, especially relievers, look really good if you take out the worst 2/13ths of their appearances. There are no league average relievers out there giving up exactly .5 runs in every appearance. They come in chunks.

Wood hasn't been horrible, but two horrible appearances are enough to say he hasn't been good.

wow that is a wonderfully misleading analysis. quote a month that has comprised nearly the entire season, but leave out the two days on which the pitcher in question has performed terribly, which happen to not fall during the month.
