Why? Because he gave up two ground balls that a shortstop with range might have gotten to? :D

Wuertz gave up two ground balls which is exactly what you want. They were hit harder than you'd like, and where a ground ball is hit is pretty much out of a pitcher's control.

Gotta disagree with you there. Ground ball, line drive, fly ball... no matter what it is, if the ball is smoked, like the hits Wuertz gave up, he's not pitching well.

those may have been groundballs in that they hit the ground, but those were ropes.

wuertz seems like he's either lights out or horrendous with little in between.

That's like saying Pitcher X is a fly ball pitcher - sure they were hit harder than you'd like and went over the fence and not in the outfielder's glove but he can't control that.

Wuertz is getting crushed right now.

He needs to locate his pitches better. It looks like he is just throwing the ball and he either falls behind or offers it right down the middle. The movement is still there, but when you can't locate it allows hitters to sit for the middle part of the plate.

Not really. Flyball pitcher = bad, groundball = good.

Were you watching on gameday or something? Only one was hit on the ground. The other was a line drive and both of them were smoked.

Edit: I quoted the wrong post.

What do you mean they were hit softly? They were hit hard.

Where does it say anything about them getting hit softly? I see adjectives like "line drive" and "smoked"

Huh? I said they were hit hard.

These other relievers are killing Marmol by not doing their job.

If Wood had closed out the game Wednesday they wouldn't have needed to use Marmol and may have been able to use him Thursday to hold Colorado down and maybe the Cubs wind up winning the game.

(Of course, I guess you could also say if Corpas has closed out the game in the top of the inning Wednesday then the Cubs would have lost that one for sure so assuming that closers should never blow a save is probably asking a bit much.)

which is not relevant to this discussion and not the question. The fact is Wuertz is getting drilled and you can't just ignore it because he's a groundball pitcher.

He didn't say that Wuertz is a groundball pitcher, he said that "he gave up two groundballs, which is exactly what you want".
